Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Pay: From $13.00 per hour

Job Description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care, supervision, and support to adults with behavioral challenges and intellectual/developmental disabilities in a residential setting. DSPs assist with daily living activities, promote independence, and maintain a safe, respectful, and structured environment while following all organizational, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct care and supervision in a residential environment

Ensure the health, safety, dignity, and rights of individuals served

Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal care, hygiene, mobility, and daily routines

Prepare and cook meals according to client dietary needs and personal preferences

Implement Individual Service Plans (ISP), behavior support plans, and care plans

Use approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques when needed

Administer or assist with medications according to training and organizational policy (if applicable)

Accurately complete daily documentation, shift notes, and incident reports

Immediately report incidents, injuries, medication errors, or safety concerns

Maintain compliance with Medicaid, CARF, HIPAA, DBHDD, and state regulations

Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and families

Participate in required trainings, meetings, and supervision

Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times

Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established procedures

Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years or older

High school diploma or GED

Legally authorized to work in the United States

Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and Medicaid compliance requirements

Knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality standards

Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Strong communication and basic computer/documentation skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced residential environment

Physically able to assist individuals and manage behavioral situations

Experience

Experience in Behavioral Health

Familiarity with CARF standards and DBHDD programs

1+ year experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, or mental health needs (Preferred)

CPR/First Aid certification (willingness to obtain upon hire)

Work Requirements

Ability to work 40–60 hours per week, including weekends and holidays when required

Preferably 25 years or older (if applicable per internal policy)

Job Type: Full-Time Preferred Experience: Caregiving – 5 years Shifts: 7am-7pm and or 7pm-7am Work Location: In Person
