Job Title - Medical Technologist – Blood Bank (MT/MLS)

Location: Atlanta, GA
Hospital Clinical Laboratory – Blood Bank
Job Duration -7 weeks with again possible extension (BI02)
Shift: Night Shift – 3x12s (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd Weekend Floating: Rare; within facility and scope of practice as needed

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS) to join a hospital Blood Bank team on a travel assignment. This role will work primarily in the Blood Bank/Transfusion Services department and requires strong experience in blood banking procedures, compatibility testing, antibody identification, and transfusion support.

The ideal candidate has recent hospital laboratory experience, strong blood bank skills, and the ability to work independently on night shift in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Key Responsibilities Blood Bank / Transfusion Services

Perform ABO/Rh typing, antibody screens, and antibody identification.
Complete AHG crossmatches, immediate-spin crossmatches, IgG crossmatches, and electronic crossmatches.
Perform antigen typing and compatibility testing.
Prepare, thaw, cool, issue, and document blood products.
Investigate and document transfusion reactions.
Maintain blood bank inventory and ensure proper blood product storage and handling.
Follow all transfusion service policies, quality controls, and regulatory requirements.

General Laboratory Testing

Perform hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and serology testing as assigned.
Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy and quality.
Perform quality assurance and quality control procedures.
Troubleshoot instrumentation and report unresolved issues appropriately.

Specimen Processing

Accession, label, and process specimens accurately.
Verify patient identification and specimen integrity.
Maintain proper blood specimen storage and handling procedures.

Safety & Compliance

Follow transmission-based precautions and laboratory safety protocols.
Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, AABB, and hospital policies.
Participate in competency assessments and required training.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent hospital laboratory experience.
Travel experience required (first-time travelers are not accepted).
Strong Blood Bank / Transfusion Services experience.
Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) required.
MLT candidates are not accepted.
One of the following certifications:
