Founding Lead HVAC Technician / Service Manager
Central and Southern Maine
$42 to $52 per hour, plus performance incentives and potential equity ownership
An established Maine real estate and property-management group is preparing to launch a new HVAC service company with an immediate pipeline of work across a substantial portfolio of multifamily and commercial properties.
We are looking for an experienced HVAC technician who wants more than another traditional technician position. This is an opportunity to become the founding technical leader of a well-capitalized business, help build the operation from the ground up, and participate in the value created as the company grows.
Ownership will provide the startup capital, vehicle, tools, equipment, administrative support, and initial customer base. The right person will bring the technical expertise and help determine how the operation should be built.
What makes this opportunity different
- Immediate pipeline of work: The company will launch with access to an established portfolio of properties and a meaningful pipeline of existing HVAC service needs.
- A strong, established company culture: This new business will be backed by an existing organization with a close-knit, hardworking, and collaborative culture. We are looking for someone who wants to work hard, build something special, and have fun doing it as part of a great team of people who genuinely enjoy working together.
- Meaningful freedom / autonomy: You will have substantial freedom to organize your schedule, route work efficiently, and help determine how the operation should function. We want to provide clear goals and strong support without unnecessary bureaucracy or micromanagement.
- Startup resources provided: Ownership will provide the capital, vehicle, tools, equipment, inventory, technology, insurance, and administrative support required to launch and operate the business professionally.
- Strong compensation: The role will include competitive pay, overtime opportunities, benefits, and performance-based compensation.
- Potential company ownership: The right candidate will have the opportunity to earn a meaningful equity interest in the company and participate directly in the long-term value created as the business grows.
- Opportunity to build a team: You will help select, train, and lead an assistant technician, with the potential to move into broader service and operational leadership as additional technicians are hired.
- A genuine voice in the business: As the founding technical leader, you will help shape the company’s service offerings, operating procedures, equipment decisions, hiring standards, scheduling practices, and long-term direction.
The Role:
Initially, this will be a hands-on position combining fieldwork with the opportunity to help build the company’s service capabilities and operating practices.
Responsibilities may include:
- Diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing HVAC equipment
- Managing and scheduling assigned work
- Organizing service routes efficiently
- Communicating directly with property managers, residents, and customers
- Helping determine which services the company should initially offer
- Scoping jobs and preparing estimates
- Establishing standards for tools, vehicles, parts, safety, and service quality
- Training and supervising an assistant technician
- Helping recruit additional technicians as demand grows
- Contributing to the company’s long-term strategy and development
As the company grows, the position is expected to become increasingly focused on leadership, training, service management, and overseeing additional technicians.
Qualifications:
- At least five years of HVAC field experience
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to complete service work independently
- Experience with some combination of heat pumps, mini-splits, boilers, hydronic systems, oil, propane, natural gas, commercial equipment, refrigeration, or controls
- Relevant federal certifications and Maine licenses for the work performed
- Ability to scope work and communicate clearly with customers
- Strong judgment, reliability, and organizational skills
- Clean driving record
- Prior experience training or supervising technicians is helpful but not required
- Interest in helping build and lead a growing company
We do not expect one person to have experience with every type of HVAC system or hold every possible license. We are most interested in finding a capable, trustworthy technician with broad experience, good judgment, a strong work ethic, and the desire to help build something meaningful.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $42 to $52 per hour, depending on experience, capabilities, and licenses
- Overtime opportunities
- Performance-based bonus
- Potential equity ownership or long-term profit participation
- Company vehicle and fuel
- Tools, equipment, technology, and startup resources provided
- Health-insurance contribution
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Retirement contribution
- Year-round work supported by an immediate pipeline of existing demand
- Substantial autonomy over daily scheduling, routing, and work planning
The exact compensation and ownership opportunity will depend on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, responsibilities, and interest in helping build the business over the long term.
Location and Schedule:
The company will initially serve properties throughout Central and Southern Maine. The operating territory and home base may be shaped in part around the successful candidate.
This is a full-time position with considerable flexibility and autonomy. The founding technician will help create a practical schedule that balances customer responsiveness with reasonable working hours and quality of life.

Please submit a resume or brief description of your HVAC experience, current licenses, and contact information.
