Full Job Description

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Payroll Account Associate I to join our team. This is the entry-level position in the Payroll Account Associate series. If you are an organized, detail-oriented individual who is proficient in MS Excel, this is a great opportunity to build your career while supporting the retirement security of Maine's public employees.

What You'll Do

Review payroll reports, adjustments, and employer payments for accuracy.
Research and resolve payroll reporting discrepancies.
Analyze payroll information and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
Process member-related forms and maintain accurate records.
Collaborate with employers and internal staff to resolve reporting issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience that demonstrates excellent customer service, research and analysis, computational, computer skills and the ability to work under limited supervision; OR post-secondary degree and two years related work experience; OR equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training may be considered.
Proficient in Excel at the Beginner level by end of probationary period.
Proficient in MS Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in processing payroll, including managing end-to-end payroll cycles, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and handling payroll discrepancies efficiently.
Proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level.

The anticipated starting salary is typically near the minimum of the pay range. Initial placement within the range will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education, experience, skills, and other job-related qualifications.

Health Insurance Coverage – MainePERS pays for 65%-95% of health insurance based on the employee’s annual salary and person covered (dependent or employee)
Health Insurance Premium Credit – Participation decreases employee-only premiums by 5%.
Dental Insurance – MainePERS pays 100% of dental insurance premiums for employees and their dependents
Vision Insurance – Employee paid
Defined Benefit Pension Plan – MainePERS contributes 10.2% of pay to pension on behalf of the employee.
Gym Membership Reimbursement – Employees may receive a wellness reimbursement of up to $300 per calendar year for individual physical fitness activities, gym membership, stress management programs, etc.
Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts – Set aside money pre-tax to help pay for out-of-pocket health care expenses and/or daycare expenses.
Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness – MainePERS is a qualified employer for this federal program. For more information, visit the Federal Student Aid office.
Parental leave - Paid parental leave for childbearing and adoption is available to an employee for up to 42 calendar days to support new parents in bonding and caring for a new child. Additionally, unpaid leave may also be available under the Family and Medical Leave Act .
Voluntary Deferred Compensation – Save additional pre-tax funds for retirement in a 457(b) and 401(a) accounts through payroll deductions.
