Position: Local Construction General Laborer

Position Summary
Structure Point Contracting LLC is seeking dependable and hardworking Local Construction General Laborers to assist with construction, demolition, property stabilization, site preparation, cleanup, material handling, and general property-improvement work.
This is an as-needed field position for employees who will be scheduled when project work is available. Weekly hours may vary depending on construction activity, project schedules, and company needs. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week.
The position is intended for individuals who are available to work locally in Elgin and surrounding communities and who are comfortable performing a variety of hands-on construction and property-maintenance tasks.
Employees will generally work under the direction of a Construction Field Lead or company management.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with demolition and removal of existing building materials.
- Load, unload, move, and stage construction materials.
- Remove construction debris.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Assist with work-site stabilization.
- Help secure vacant or damaged buildings.
- Install temporary protection when directed.
- Prepare spaces before subcontractors and construction crews arrive.
- Install temporary floor, wall, and surface protection.
- Assist with basic carpentry and framing.
- Assist with drywall removal, installation, patching, and preparation.
- Perform painting, surface preparation, and touch-up work.
- Assist with basic fixture removal and replacement.
- Remove cabinets, flooring, trim, doors, fixtures, and other materials during demolition.
- Sweep, clean, and organize construction areas.
- Assist with final project cleanup and turnover.
- Prepare spaces for inspections, tenants, contractors, or occupancy.
- Move tools and equipment throughout job sites.
- Assist with receiving deliveries.
- Organize construction materials and storage areas.
- Assist with loading and unloading company vehicles.
- Perform basic exterior cleanup and property-maintenance work.
- Complete punch-list items under the direction of the Construction Field Lead.
- Perform other general construction and property-related tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule & Availability
This is an as-needed position based on available work.
Construction activity can vary from week to week. Employees may be scheduled for full workdays or multiple days when projects are active and may have fewer or no scheduled hours during slower periods.
Employees should understand that:
- Weekly hours are not guaranteed.
- The amount of work may change from week to week.
- Scheduling is based on active project needs.
- Employees may be contacted as projects and assignments become available.
- Availability and reliability will be considered when assigning work.
- Some weeks may have substantial hours while other weeks may have limited or no available work.
This position is best suited for someone who wants flexible construction work and is comfortable with a variable schedule.
Local Work Area
This position is intended for local projects only.
Employees may be assigned to job sites throughout Elgin and surrounding communities.
This position does not normally require:
- Out-of-state travel.
- Overnight hotel stays.
- Extended travel assignments.
Employees must have reliable transportation to assigned work locations or designated company meeting points.
Working With the Construction Field Lead
The Local Construction General Laborer will typically work under the direction of a Construction Field Lead.
The employee is expected to:
- Arrive on time and prepared to work.
- Follow instructions provided by the Field Lead.
- Ask questions when instructions are unclear.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Properly use company tools and equipment.
- Communicate when assigned work has been completed.
- Report unsafe conditions or problems.
- Assist other team members when their assigned tasks are completed.
- Maintain a professional attitude around tenants, property owners, subcontractors, vendors, and other workers.
This position does not require the employee to independently manage a construction project or crew.
Construction Cleanup & Site Organization
Maintaining clean and organized job sites is an important part of this position.
Before Construction
- Remove unnecessary materials.
- Move furniture or building contents when directed.
- Install floor or surface protection.
- Prepare demolition and construction areas.
- Stage tools and materials.
During Construction
- Remove debris.
- Sweep and clean work areas.
- Keep walkways and access points clear.
- Organize materials.
- Assist with moving construction materials.
- Maintain designated debris and disposal areas.
After Construction
- Complete final cleanup.
- Remove temporary protection.
- Remove construction debris.
- Organize leftover materials.
- Prepare spaces for inspection.
- Prepare areas for tenant occupancy or project turnover.
Demolition Responsibilities
General Laborers may regularly assist with demolition work.
Tasks may include:
- Removing drywall.
- Removing flooring.
- Removing ceiling materials.
- Removing cabinets and casework.
- Removing doors and trim.
- Removing fixtures after they have been properly disconnected.
- Removing non-structural framing when directed.
- Carrying demolished materials to dumpsters or designated disposal areas.
- Separating reusable or salvageable materials.
- Cleaning demolition areas.
Employees must follow instructions regarding what materials can and cannot be removed.
Structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hazardous-material, or other specialized work must not be performed unless specifically authorized and appropriate for the employee’s qualifications.
Property Readiness & Maintenance Work
When assigned, employees may also assist with:
- Property cleanup.
- Painting and touchups.
- Minor drywall repairs.
- Debris removal.
- Cleaning storage areas.
- Organizing construction materials.
- Organizing company tools and equipment.
- Cleaning company vehicles.
- Moving materials between local properties.
- Preparing vacant spaces.
- Cleaning mechanical or utility areas.
- Exterior cleanup.
- Removing abandoned materials.
- Preparing upcoming construction areas.
- Assisting with inventory.
- Staging materials for future projects.
- Completing punch-list items.
- Assisting with routine building-maintenance work.
Tools & Equipment
Employees should be comfortable using common construction tools and equipment.
Depending on experience and assignment, this may include:
- Tape measures.
- Hammers.
- Pry bars.
- Levels.
- Utility knives.
- Screwdrivers.
- Cordless drills and impact drivers.
- Circular saws.
- Reciprocating saws.
- Shop vacuums.
- Hand trucks and carts.
- Demolition tools.
- Ladders.
- Other basic construction equipment.
Structure Point Contracting will provide or make available specialized and project-specific equipment as necessary.
Employees are responsible for properly caring for company tools and reporting damaged or missing equipment.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding position.
Employees must be able to:
- Regularly lift and carry at least 60 pounds.
- Load and unload construction materials.
- Carry construction debris.
- Push and pull equipment or materials.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb.
- Safely use ladders.
- Work in unfinished spaces.
- Work indoors and outdoors.
- Work in varying weather conditions.
- Perform demolition and other physically demanding construction activities.
- Work around dust, noise, construction debris, and active construction operations.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should:

Construction experience is preferred but may not be required for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Compensation will be based on factors such as:
- Previous construction experience.
- Ability to safely use tools and equipment.
- Carpentry or demolition experience.

- Reliability and attendance.
