Full Job Description

Escrow Officer

Salary range is from $26.50/hour to $38.50/hour

About the Role

We're working on behalf of a confidential client to fill an Escrow Officer position. In this role, you'll act as a neutral third party between buyers and builders during real estate sales, establishing and managing escrow accounts and processing transactions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

What You'll Do

Complete real estate escrow transactions by determining requirements, clearing titles, and assembling, preparing, and reviewing closing documents before disbursing funds
Determine escrow requirements by studying and clarifying buyer, seller, and lender instructions
Obtain clear title by ordering title reports, resolving title defects, and satisfying existing liens and encumbrances against the property or principals
Establish escrow accounts by depositing funds and maintaining accurate records
Prepare transaction documents by completing forms and statements and reviewing existing documentation
Complete calculations by prorating taxes and interest
Finalize closing documents by assembling paperwork, reviewing it with all parties, explaining provisions and procedures, answering questions, checking for completeness and accuracy, and obtaining signatures
Complete closings by recording and filing documents and preparing and distributing final closing statements and title
Prepare HUD statements using lender instructions
Close escrow accounts by balancing and disbursing funds
Comply with and enforce all regulatory requirements
Stay current through educational opportunities, professional publications, networks, and industry organizations

Scope & Autonomy

Handles moderately complex assignments with latitude for independent action and decision-making
Works under general supervision, setting own priorities and objectives; work is reviewed for sound judgment and overall accuracy
Acts in an advisory capacity, making recommendations that may have an important bearing on business operations
No supervisory responsibility for others

What We're Looking For

4–6 years of related experience, including 3+ years directly handling escrow transactions as an escrow assistant
Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the escrow/title industry
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Strong client relations and organizational skills
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively in front of groups
Comfort calculating figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
Detail-oriented and professional, with the ability to handle confidential information
Ability to work with sellers, buyers, agents, and brokers
Bilingual or multilingual is a plus

Education & Certification

High school diploma or equivalent
Escrow Officer certification from the Escrow Association, or completion of an escrow officer training program through a title company or bank

Work Environment

Primarily office-based with a moderate noise level
Occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reading, and talking/hearing
Must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
Close vision and the ability to adjust focus required
