Position purpose

The Mohs Tech performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by the Mohs surgeons.

Role and Responsibilities

Performs Mohs histology including: specimen grossing, chuck preparation, microtomy, staining, coverslipping
Maintains quality and viability of all specimens, including verification of chucks and slides to case numbers to ensures correct patient labeling
Correctly prepares solutions for staining
Adheres to quality control policies
Performs routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issues
Follows appropriate laboratory safety protocols
Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required
Associate’s degree or higher in a chemical, physical or biological science OR a minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination) OR HT/HTL (ASCP) certified, or eligible OR Certification of Mohs Training by a Nationally recognized facilitator.
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work in a team and service oriented environment. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with physicians, providers and lab personnel.
Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment
Computer literate
Strong analytical judgement
Accuracy and close attention to details
Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment and terminology

Preferred Skills

Experience with Mohs technique
Must be ok with traveling to Arlington Heights, Oak Park, Libertyville, Skokie, and Naperville
Work schedule: Monday -Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm (Mohs Days) and 7:30am - 4:00pm (when helping in lab)
