Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Perioperative Clinical Coordinator, RN to support and coordinate clinical nursing operations within a fast-paced orthopedic ambulatory surgery center.
This position is ideal for an experienced orthopedic or perioperative nurse who is confident working across multiple areas of patient care, including preoperative services, the operating room, and PACU. The Perioperative Clinical Coordinator will serve as a senior clinical resource for staff while assisting the Administrator/Clinical Director with daily clinical operations, patient care coordination, regulatory readiness, and quality initiatives.
This role provides clinical leadership and coordination . The individual will work closely with nursing staff, surgical technologists, anesthesia providers, surgeons, physician assistants, and administrative leadership to promote safe, efficient, patient-centered care.
The ideal candidate will have strong orthopedic and perioperative experience, excellent organizational skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to function independently in a busy ASC environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the coordination of daily clinical operations within the orthopedic ambulatory surgery center.
- Serve as an experienced clinical resource for nursing staff and surgical team members.
- Provide direct patient care as needed in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative/PACU areas.
- Complete and review comprehensive preoperative nursing assessments and ensure required clinical documentation is complete prior to surgery.
- Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming surgical cases.
- Conduct preoperative patient screening calls and postoperative follow-up calls.
- Review physician orders, consents, laboratory results, medical clearances, medication information, and other required documentation prior to the date of surgery.
- Identify incomplete or concerning clinical information and communicate appropriately with the surgeon, anesthesia provider, or Administrator/Clinical Director.
- Start and maintain peripheral IV access and administer medications in accordance with physician orders, facility policy, and scope of practice.
- Assist anesthesia providers with preparation and support during regional anesthesia blocks as appropriate.
- Monitor patients throughout the perioperative process and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Assist with PACU patient care, assessment, medication administration, discharge readiness, and patient/family education when needed.
- Ensure discharge instructions and required documentation are completed appropriately.
- Coordinate durable medical equipment (DME) and other postoperative patient needs as applicable.
- Promote efficient patient flow and assist the clinical team with maintaining the daily surgical schedule.
- Support infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, environmental practices, and adherence to established infection-control policies.
- Assist with clinical audits, quality improvement activities, QAPI initiatives, and regulatory compliance monitoring.
- Assist with emergency equipment, medication, supply, and clinical area readiness.
- Support nursing competencies, orientation, education, and clinical development of staff as directed by the Administrator/Clinical Director.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the facility's electronic health record system, including SIS.
- Assist with ensuring charts are complete and documentation requirements are met before cases are closed or submitted for billing.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CMS Conditions for Coverage, AAAHC standards, Georgia nursing requirements, facility policies, and other applicable regulations.
- Promote a professional, collaborative, respectful, and patient-focused clinical environment.
- Assist with maintaining clean, stocked, organized, and survey-ready clinical areas.
- Communicate clinical concerns, staffing needs, patient safety issues, and operational concerns promptly to the Administrator/Clinical Director.
- Perform additional clinical duties within the RN scope of practice as needed to support safe and efficient ASC operations.
Clinical Leadership Responsibilities
The Perioperative Clinical Coordinator serves as a senior clinical resource and provides day-to-day clinical guidance to nursing and perioperative staff.
The position may assist with workflow coordination, staff education, competency validation, patient assignments, and clinical problem-solving under the direction of the Administrator/Clinical Director.
This position does not independently exercise authority related to hiring, termination, formal disciplinary action, compensation, or administrative policy decisions unless specifically delegated by the Administrator/Clinical Director.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Georgia.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing experience, with strong preference for orthopedic, perioperative, ambulatory surgery, OR, pre-op, or PACU experience.
- Previous orthopedic surgery experience strongly preferred.
- Ambulatory Surgery Center experience strongly preferred.
- Experience functioning as a charge nurse, clinical coordinator, lead RN, or senior clinical resource is preferred.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Current ACLS certification required or must be obtained within the timeframe established by the facility.
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and patient safety standards.
- Understanding of infection prevention and surgical aseptic practices.
- Familiarity with AAAHC and CMS ASC standards preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records; experience with SIS is highly desirable.
- Strong assessment, critical-thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and initiate an appropriate clinical response.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Ability and willingness to work across preoperative, operating room, and PACU areas as needed.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally with surgeons, anesthesia providers, staff, patients, and families.

Position Expectations
This position requires an experienced RN who is comfortable functioning as a hands-on clinical leader. The successful candidate should be willing to step into patient care whenever needed while also helping maintain organization, clinical readiness, documentation compliance, and continuity throughout the surgical day.
The Perioperative Clinical Coordinator will work closely with the Administrator/Clinical Director and will play an important role in supporting safe, efficient, high-quality orthopedic surgical care.
