Job Summary
Legacy Builder Supply is hiring a dependable Building Materials Yard & Warehouse Associate to work at our building materials facility.
This is not a typical indoor warehouse or fulfillment-center position. A significant part of the job takes place in an outdoor loading yard and open warehouse environment, where you'll handle building materials of different sizes, shapes, weights, and lengths.
Our products include fencing, decking, siding, flooring, pipe, long trim and baseboards, fence pickets, and other building materials. Some products are palletized and moved by forklift; others must be picked, carried, staged, and loaded by hand.
We're especially interested in candidates with previous experience in a lumberyard, building materials yard, construction supply warehouse, roofing/siding supply, fencing supply, pipe supply, or similar outdoor material-handling environment.
What the Work Is Really Like
This is a physically demanding, hands-on position.
You should be comfortable:
- Working both outdoors and in an open warehouse in Texas weather
- Spending most of your shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, and loading material
- Repeatedly lifting and handling 50+ lbs. throughout the workday
- Handling long, bulky, and sometimes awkward building materials—not just boxes or standard pallets
- Loading customer pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, and trailers safely and efficiently
- Working around forklifts, trucks, trailers, customers, and other moving equipment
- Switching throughout the day between forklift operation, hand-loading, order pulling, receiving, and yard organization
What You'll Do
- Operate forklifts to move and stage building materials safely
- Pull and stage customer orders containing a variety of materials and product sizes
- Load customer trucks and trailers accurately and safely
- Hand-load materials when forklift loading isn't appropriate
- Receive vendor deliveries and inspect incoming products for quantity and damage
- Organize material throughout the warehouse and outdoor yard
- Assist with inventory counts and maintaining accurate inventory locations
- Keep loading areas, warehouse space, and the yard clean and safe
- Work with our sales team to make sure customers receive the correct materials
- Follow OSHA requirements and company safety procedures
Experience We're Looking For
Strongly preferred:
- Previous lumberyard, building-materials, construction-supply, or outdoor yard experience
- Experience loading and unloading trucks or trailers with building materials
- Forklift experience in a yard, lumber, construction, or similar material-handling environment
- Experience handling long, bulky, or irregularly shaped materials
We will consider other warehouse backgrounds, but candidates must understand that this position is substantially different from an indoor fulfillment, parcel-sorting, or grocery warehouse environment.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
To be successful in this position, you must be able to:
- Work outdoors during hot, cold, windy, and other normal Texas weather conditions
- Work in an open warehouse that is not a climate-controlled fulfillment center
- Lift and carry 50+ lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift
- Safely handle long and awkward materials with a teammate when necessary
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull material throughout the workday
- Work safely around forklifts, trucks, trailers, and heavy building materials
You'll Be a Good Fit If You
- Have experience working in a lumberyard, building-materials yard, construction supply operation, or similar environment
- Prefer active, physical work over repetitive indoor fulfillment work
- Are comfortable working outside
- Know how to work safely around forklifts and heavy materials
- Show up on time and have dependable attendance
- Pay attention to quantities, product condition, and order accuracy
- Take ownership of keeping your work area and yard organized
- Work well with teammates and customers
- Are looking for stable, long-term employment
This Position Probably Isn't a Good Fit If You
- Are specifically looking for a climate-controlled indoor warehouse position
- Are uncomfortable spending a significant portion of the day outdoors
- Aren't comfortable repeatedly handling heavy, long, or awkward materials
- Prefer repetitive picking, packing, or parcel-sorting work
- Don't have dependable attendance and punctuality
- Aren't comfortable working around forklifts, trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
If you have lumberyard, building-materials, construction-supply, or similar outdoor material-handling experience, we encourage you to apply and tell us about that experience.
