Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) is seeking a motivated technical professional to join our organization as a ‘Software Developer I’ and contribute to building and enhancing modern applications, including proprietary insurance software solutions. Prepare, design and implement software for moderate to complex custom developed applications or Guidewire products and integrate those applications with other custom or commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications.

Participate in creating and maintaining plans to develop custom software, Guidewire products, and integration with other applications.

Estimate level of effort and elapsed time to design, implement, and test software.
-
Document, implement and unit test code based on approved designs.

Provide periodic status of deliverables, level of effort, and timeframes to completion.

Troubleshoot, as required, problems with software in production.
-
Provide input into, and help manager develop and then implement own personal training plan.

Formally document designs using established documentation standards.

Plan and implement production rollout of software upgrades to custom developed and Guidewire products.

Collaborate with external consultants and developers on large scale projects.

Guide business department personnel in technical and business capability of software applications.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-
Four-year college degree, preferably in CS, engineering or other technical field, or equivalent experience.

1+ years software development experience
-
Familiarity with formal software development processes and best practices.

Familiarity with software package selection processes.
-
Hands-on experience as a software application developer using different application software architectures (e.g. MVC, client server, etc.).

Experience coding with Java, J2EE, GOSU or .NET or other object-oriented technologies.

Implementation experience in at least one full life-cycle implementations.

Experience translating business requirements into concise technical design documents.

Knowledge of database constructs and experience with SQL.

Experience writing business rules, interpreting XMLs and making user interface design changes.

Demonstrated ability to design, configure, and test software products.

Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to actively listen, problem solve, and communicate effectively with both technical and business users.

Demonstrated experience working both as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate degree in technical discipline.

Familiarity with agile methodology.

Experience with MS SQL Server.

Property and casualty insurance experience.

Guidewire Insurance Suite.

Any IT certification.
