Job Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for performing various meter-related tasks, including meter reading, meter maintenance, service disconnect, meter removal, atmosphere corrosion visual inspections, surveys, and installation of new meter sets. The role involves frequent interaction with customers, team members, and internal stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of utility meters.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Meter Reading:
- Regularly read utility meters on assigned routes accurately and record consumption data.
- Ensure that meter readings are submitted within designated timelines and maintain accurate records of readings.
2. Meter Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections of utility meters to identify and resolve any issues affecting their functionality.
- Perform preventive maintenance to keep meters in optimal working condition and extend their lifespan.
3. Service Disconnect:
- Safely and efficiently disconnect utility services for non-payment or as per customer requests.
- Adhere to company procedures and safety guidelines while performing service disconnections.
4. Meter Removal:
- Handle meter removal requests and safely disconnect meters from the utility system.
- Record relevant data during meter removals and update the system accordingly.
5. Atmosphere Corrosion Visual Inspections:
- Conduct visual inspections of utility meters and related infrastructure to identify signs of atmosphere corrosion.
- Report any corrosion findings and work with the appropriate teams to address and rectify issues.
6. Surveys:
- Perform surveys to gather necessary data for meter installation or maintenance purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to analyze survey results and provide recommendations for improvements.
7. New Meter Sets:
- Install new utility meters and meter sets accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure proper calibration and functionality of newly installed meters.
8. Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service, address customer inquiries, and resolve service-related issues promptly and professionally.
- Act as a representative of the company, maintaining a positive and customer-focused demeanor at all times.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certifications in metering or related fields is a plus.
- Proven experience in meter reading, meter maintenance, and related utility service tasks preferred.
- Familiarity with safety guidelines and regulations related to meter installations, maintenance, and service disconnects.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording and reporting meter data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Physical capability to lift, move, and work with utility equipment and meters.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Working Conditions:
The Service Technician will primarily work in the field, visiting various customer locations to perform meter-related tasks. The position may involve exposure to outdoor elements, varying weather conditions, and physically demanding tasks. Appropriate safety gear and training will be provided to ensure a safe working environment.
