Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

As a Manufacturing Engineer – Process Control & Operations Support, you will serve as a key technical resource responsible for driving process stability, product quality, and operational efficiency across the plant. Your primary focus will be managing process specifications, leveraging data from real-time monitoring, conducting Statistical Process Control (SPC) and capability studies, and continuously improving through quality feedback loops. Your secondary focus will be supporting plant operations through troubleshooting, layout optimization, workflow enhancements, ergonomic improvements, automation, and cost-saving initiatives. This role is central to sustaining and advancing manufacturing excellence through analytical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and proactive engagement across departments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Process Specification & Control

Develop and maintain process specifications, tolerances, and work standards for manufacturing operations.
Own and manage the manufacturing process database for traceability and continuous updates.
Work with New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering for handoff of new products.
Define and validate Critical to Quality (CTQ) parameters to ensure part integrity and consistency.

2. Real-Time Data Monitoring & Statistical Process Control

Monitor real-time process data and identify trends and deviations.
Perform capability studies, SPC analysis, and design of experiments (DOE) to ensure robust process performance.
Implement data-driven improvement plans using internal quality and production data as feedback loops.
Support data automation and machine learning initiatives.

3. Deviation Response & Root Cause Investigation

Manage daily production startup process checks and signoffs.
Lead root cause analysis for deviations, coordinating with tooling, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.

4. Continuous Improvement & Plant Operations Support
Drive cross-functional improvement projects targeting:

Automation & Robotics: Evaluate and implement systems to increase consistency and reduce labor burden.
Material Flow & Layout: Optimize floor layout and raw material/component delivery paths to enhance efficiency.
Workflows & Ergonomics: Improve operator interfaces and job design to reduce fatigue and improve productivity.
Cost Savings: Identify and implement opportunities for safety, scrap reduction, cycle time optimization, and labor efficiency.
Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
Actively contributes to lean manufacturing initiatives and kaizen events.

5. Documentation & Collaboration

Maintain accurate documentation of process changes, capability studies, and improvement actions.
Support change management activities including ECNs, PCNs, and PPAP documentation.
Foster strong cross-functional relationships with engineering, quality, production, supply chain, and external suppliers to ensure aligned operational goals.

5. Communication and Sustaining

Document all parameters and outputs on a sampling sheet and provide report to cross functional team, including a plan for recommendations for improvements.
Foster strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, quality assurance, and suppliers.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on project timelines and goals.
Provide regular updates and reports on the status of projects and process improvements.
Support production line with technical issues that cannot be addressed by the production team.
Initiate or support engineering changes through customer and internal communications and required system documentation.
Adhere to Process Map Documented JDPM-001-A.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

3 years of direct technical injection molding plastics experience
Strong knowledge of injection molding machine operation, tooling, and materials.
Proficiency in process optimization and quality control methodologies in manufacturing
Experience with PPAP processes and documentation.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication & Task management – creating a task list, delegate work to others and keep progress.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Has academic functional skills needed to perform assigned tasks
Computer literate
Strong communication skills
Critical thinking
Strong demeanor – this position requires long hours and a determined attitude.
CAD and Solidworks experience is preferred

WORKING CONDIITONS

Regular exposure to dust, fumes, odors and warm working temperatures
Must be able to walk behind machines, i.e., in narrow places.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to read written English.
Ability to express oneself verbally in English with clarity on a face-to-face basis.
Ability to hear in one or both ears so that verbal communication can be received, understood, and acted upon either face to face or over an overhead paging system.
Ability of olfactory nerves to distinguish between and among odors and scents as to origin and level of intensity, and to tolerate potentially obnoxious smells.
Ability to control and utilize fingers in a dexterous and coordinated manner for such activities as writing, typing, keyboarding, etc.
Ability to stretch body and extend arms to place or secure objects at a distance above, to the side of, or below the normal standing level.
Ability to exert a reasonable paced mobility from one point to another within a generally accepted time frame, and recognize the conditions of the environment as narrowness, clutter, slickness, etc.
Ability to move and control one's torso so items can be picked up from the floor or from a lower surface level.
Ability to flex legs at the knees and move the upper body forward and down.
Ability to flex legs at the knees to lower body position.
Ability to flex legs at the knee so that individual can lower the body coming to rest on one or both knees.
Ability to use body parts, usually arms and hands (occasionally shoulders and back) to elevate an object weighing more than 50 lbs. above its previous surface level.
Ability to ascend steps, ladders, and other vertical and semi-vertical surfaces to reach a higher level.
