Pflugerville Independent School District - Job Description
Job Title/Position: Speech-Language Pathologist Department/School: Special Education

Pay Information: Professional Support Salary Schedule Supervised By: Coordinator of Speech Services

FLSA: Exempt Date Revised: January 2020

Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional services for identified students experiencing difficulty communicating in the educational environment. Support and offer
intervention services for general education students who may be experiencing delays in language and articulation.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university; valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist OR
speech-language pathology intern granted by the TDLR for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

Major Responsibilities:

Therapy/Intervention:
1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual

Education Plans (IEP). Implement district approved and adopted instructional interventions for general education students with
communication deficits.

2. Evaluate student progress and determines readiness for termination of therapy services.
3. Implement programs necessary to address assistive technology needs of students.

Assessment:
4. Conduct individual evaluations to identify students with speech and/or language disorders and to determine eligibility for services,

including educational need.
5. Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.
6. Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement

and goal setting for students with speech impairments and other disabilities.
7. Facilitate ARD Committee meetings for students with speech impairment as only special education eligibility, as needed.

Consultation:
8. Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, and/or related services staff to plan and implement classroom

activities to improve communication skills of students.
9. Counsel and involve parents in remedial process.
10. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.
11. Provide professional learning in assigned schools to help school personnel identify, understand, and implement interventions for students

with communication deficits.
12. Participate in the campus problem solving support team process and educates district staff, consult with teachers and parents, as well as

support and offer intervention services for general education students who may be experiencing delays in language and articulation.
Student Management:

13. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
14. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Pflugerville ISD Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Administration:
15. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
16. Participate in professional learning activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
17. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations and with policies established by federal and state laws, TDLR rule, and board

policy. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

Ability to use appropriate tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions 
Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions 
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior 
Organizational and interpersonal skills 
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May supervise speech-language pathology-intern and/or assistant in speech-language pathology as directed by Coordinator of Speech Services

Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):

Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned. Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate lifting and carrying. May be
required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
