Full Job Description

Nurse Aide Clinical Instructor — Independent Contractor

Pay: $40–$50 per hour; up to $2,000 for a complete 40-hour clinical program
Location: Clinical sites throughout the Greater Austin area
Schedule: Part-time, intermittent clinical assignments

Texas Regional Healthcare Training Center is seeking licensed nurses to provide the clinical-instruction portion of our Nurse Aide Training Program. This role is designed for experienced nurses who enjoy teaching, mentoring, and preparing new healthcare workers to provide safe, professional, and compassionate care.

Students complete the academic portion of the program before beginning a 40-hour clinical component. During the clinical portion, instructors demonstrate required nurse aide skills, supervise student practice, coach students in an actual patient-care environment, evaluate competency, and document successful completion of required skills.

This is an independent-contractor position intended to supplement other nursing or professional work. Clinical assignments are offered to a pool of approved instructors based on program schedules, instructor availability, and enrollment. Hours are intermittent and are not guaranteed.

Texas Regional Healthcare Training Center provides onboarding, program expectations, instructional materials, and assignment information before instructors begin working with students. Instructors may accept or decline offered assignments, and no minimum number of hours is guaranteed.

Primary Responsibilities

Prepare for and deliver the 40-hour clinical-instruction portion of the Nurse Aide Training Program.
Demonstrate required nurse aide skills and explain the correct sequence, safety precautions, and professional standards for each skill.
Supervise students as they practice skills with classmates and perform approved tasks in a clinical setting.
Observe student performance and provide immediate, specific, and constructive coaching.
Evaluate whether each student can perform required skills safely, accurately, and independently.
Intervene promptly when student conduct or performance could affect patient safety, dignity, privacy, or infection control.
Reinforce professional behavior, communication, reliability, teamwork, and appropriate boundaries.
Track student attendance, participation, skill completion, and competency.
Complete required evaluations, sign-offs, and program documentation accurately and on time.
Coordinate with training-center leadership, other instructors, and clinical-site personnel.
Follow Texas Health and Human Services Commission requirements, training-center procedures, and clinical-site policies.

Typical Clinical Schedule

The training center generally conducts one or two clinical programs each month. Most programs are scheduled Monday through Friday for eight hours per day.

Some programs may instead be scheduled as four 10-hour days across two Friday-and-Saturday periods.

Instructors may accept available assignments based on their schedules. Instructors who are available may work more than one non-overlapping program during a month. Preference is given to instructors who can commit to an entire 40-hour program. Partial-program coverage may occasionally be available, with compensation based on the portion covered.

Qualifications

Active Texas RN, LVN, or LPN license.
Openness to part-time schedule.
At least three years of professional nursing experience with the current clinical knowledge and ability to accurately demonstrate basic nurse aide skills.
Experience teaching adult learners, training or precepting healthcare workers, or supervising nurse aides.
Sound clinical judgment and a strong commitment to patient or resident safety and dignity.
Ability to supervise, coach, evaluate, and provide corrective feedback to adult learners.
Professional, reliable, organized, and able to complete required documentation accurately.
Ability to report to assigned clinical sites throughout the Greater Austin area.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
