You will receive a 160-hour onboarding program followed by a 13-week Corrections Academy to ensure your success as a Correctional Officer. The Department has twenty-five thousand authorized positions, 80 percent of which are Certified Correctional Officers.
Duties:
Correctional Officers are responsible for the supervision, care, custody, control, and physical restraint, when necessary, of inmates in a Correctional Institution or facility. Your proactive supervision and management of inmate behavior will ensure compliance with correctional policies while promoting safety for staff, inmates, and visitors alike. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the criminal justice system through diligent security practices and effective conflict resolution. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and humane environment within the correctional facility.
Compensation:
Starting pay is $22 hourly based on a standard 8.5-hour shift schedule
$23.14 hourly after state certification.

Expected hours: No less than 42.5 per week

- Day Shift - 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Night Shift - 4:00pm - 12:30am
- Overnight Shift - 12:00am - 8:30am

Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a United States Citizen
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid FL driver’s license
- Not have been convicted of any felony.
- Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
- Not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
- Pass a medical examination and drug test.
- Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation.
