As the organization continues to grow, it is seeking an experienced General Manager – Manufacturing & Operations to strengthen daily operations, improve manufacturing performance, develop its management team, and help build a scalable organization.
Position Summary
The General Manager – Manufacturing & Operations will lead the company’s day-to-day operations, with primary responsibility for manufacturing, production planning, supply chain, inventory, quality, operational performance, and team leadership.
Approximately 70% of the role will focus on manufacturing and operations. The remaining 30% will involve strategic planning, customer engagement, commercial support, new-product implementation, and collaboration with executive leadership, engineering, and sales.
This is a hands-on, on-site leadership position. The successful candidate will be comfortable working closely with managers and employees on the production floor while also overseeing budgets, performance metrics, operational systems, and business priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing and Operations
- Lead daily manufacturing and production operations.
- Develop and execute production schedules that support customer commitments.
- Improve on-time delivery, throughput, productivity, labor efficiency, and resource utilization.
- Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Optimize production workflows, plant layout, capacity, and resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and manufacturing costs while maintaining product quality.
- Ensure products are completed on schedule and meet established quality requirements.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop department managers and supervisors.
- Establish clear objectives, performance expectations, and accountability.
- Recruit, train, and retain high-performing employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
- Build practical management systems that support continued company growth.
- Foster a collaborative culture focused on quality, teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Supply Chain and Inventory
- Oversee purchasing, supplier relationships, inventory management, warehousing, and material planning.
- Improve inventory accuracy, inventory turnover, and material availability.
- Ensure production has the materials required to meet schedules while minimizing excess inventory.
- Build productive relationships with key suppliers and address potential supply risks.
Quality and Process Improvement
- Support compliance with company quality standards, procedures, and applicable quality-management systems.
- Lead or support root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Improve manufacturing consistency and reduce defects, rework, and waste.
- Develop and maintain standardized work instructions and operating procedures.
Financial and Performance Management
- Manage operational budgets and departmental expenses.
- Monitor labor efficiency, manufacturing costs, operational performance, and gross-margin improvement opportunities.
- Establish and track meaningful operational key performance indicators.
- Prepare regular operating updates and performance reports for executive leadership.
- Improve operational profitability through disciplined planning and process improvement.
Systems and Organizational Scalability
- Lead ERP implementation, optimization, and user-adoption initiatives.
- Develop operational dashboards and reporting systems.
- Standardize business processes across departments.
- Identify automation and technology opportunities that improve efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
Customer and Business Support
- Support executive leadership in strategic customer relationships and meetings.
- Participate in customer visits and facility tours when appropriate.
- Collaborate with engineering and sales on new-product launches.
- Support the implementation of new products, processes, equipment, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Identify operational improvements that strengthen customer satisfaction and support business growth.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, operations management, business, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
- At least five years of experience managing managers, multiple departments, or functional leaders.
- Demonstrated success improving manufacturing productivity, quality, delivery, cost, or inventory performance.
- Experience working with an ERP system such as Odoo, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or a comparable platform.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, supply chain, inventory management, budgeting, manufacturing costs, and performance metrics.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and maintain accountability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturing leadership experience in medical devices, medical simulation, life sciences, precision manufacturing, plastics, silicone molding, composites, or a related industry.
- Experience working within an ISO or comparable quality-management system.
- Experience leading an ERP implementation or significant ERP optimization project.
- Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement certification.
- Experience scaling manufacturing operations or introducing new production capabilities.
- Customer-facing experience involving product launches, facility visits, or strategic accounts.

Work Location
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Bolton, Massachusetts. It is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.
The General Manager will be expected to work regularly at the Bolton facility and maintain a visible presence across manufacturing, warehousing, quality, and other operating areas.
