Full Job Description

Job Overview

The Business Manager serves as the senior administrator responsible for the financial and business operations at a local Educational Institute. Reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, the Business Manager provides leadership and oversight for the School's financial management, accounting, budgeting, tuition administration, payroll, human resources administration, purchasing, risk management, and business operations.

The Business Manager ensures the fiscal integrity and long-term financial sustainability of the School while supporting its mission and strategic priorities. This position is responsible for maintaining sound financial practices, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, administering Florida scholarship funding programs, and providing accurate financial reporting to the Head of School and Board of Trustees.

ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management

Develop the School's annual operating budget in collaboration with the Head of School.
Monitor revenues, expenditures, and cash flow.
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
Analyze financial performance and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain appropriate internal financial controls.
Coordinate the annual independent audit.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.
Assist in long-range financial planning.

Accounting and Business Office Operations

Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
Supervise the Business Office staff.
Ensure timely month-end and year-end closings.
Maintain accurate financial records.
Oversee purchasing and vendor relationships.
Manage contracts and service agreements.

Tuition and Student Accounts

Oversee tuition billing and collection.
Monitor payment plans and accounts receivable.
Reconcile tuition accounts.
Prepare enrollment revenue projections.
Work collaboratively with Admissions regarding enrollment forecasting.

Florida Scholarship Administration

Oversee all financial aspects of Florida scholarship programs, including:

Family Empowerment Scholarship
Florida Tax Credit Scholarship
Hope Scholarship
Other approved Scholarship Funding Organizations

Responsibilities include:

Scholarship billing and reconciliation.
Verification of scholarship payments.
Compliance with scholarship funding requirements.
Maintenance of required documentation.
Preparation for scholarship audits.

Payroll and Human Resources Administration

Supervise payroll processing.
Administer employee benefits.
Maintain personnel compensation records.
Coordinate retirement plan administration.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and payroll regulations.

Business Operations

Provide oversight of:

Purchasing
Insurance programs
Risk management
Facilities financial planning
Capital expenditures
Office operations
Vendor management
Transportation budgeting
Food service financial oversight

Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Maintain financial policies and procedures.
Coordinate annual audits.
Oversee insurance renewals.
Support FCIS accreditation standards related to governance and finance.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.

QualificationsRequired

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Five or more years of progressively responsible financial management experience.
Supervisory experience.
Knowledge of nonprofit accounting.
Strong budgeting and financial analysis skills.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
High ethical standards and discretion.

Preferred

CPA or MBA.
Experience in an independent school.
Knowledge of Florida scholarship funding programs.
Experience with FCIS-accredited schools.
Experience coordinating annual audits.

Experience preparing and managing annual budgets.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
High ethical standards and confidentiality.

Salary

$60,000-75,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
