1:1 staff will work directly with a client to provide individual care. 1:1 services are designed to
support a client in improving challenging symptoms and behaviors. Staff would stay/observe
with the single client for the entirety of the shift. 1:1 staff will support the youth with daily
routines (activities, meals, hygiene, etc.) in accordance with applicable state and federal
regulations and the DPGH program statement. 1:1 staff will encourage the youth to participate in
the DPGH program by attending school, attending medical appointments, participating in mental
health services, and other activities as scheduled.
Employment may be terminated at any point if services are no longer needed or if client is
removed from placement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide assistance to individual youth and work to maintain a safe, pleasant, nurturing
environment
Transport youth to and from appointments, school, outings, etc.
Maintain consistent supervision of youth at all times
Monitor and guide youth in their daily routines such as education, hygiene, chores, etc.
Facilitate activities with youth
Assist and encourage youth in taking any prescribed medications
Encourage youth to identify and participate in activities related to their personal interests,
such as sports, music, community activities, etc.
Work individually with youth in an empathetic, non-judgmental, trauma-informed
manner
Support youth with individual behavioral challenges one-on-one and in a group setting
Any other duties necessary to ensure the health and safety of youth
Qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in an STRTP residential
setting
Skills and ability to engage and develop rapport with individual youth
Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based
interventions
Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative
manner
HOURS:
Minimum Requirements
1. 1:1 staff shall meet one of the following qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree
Valid Child Development Teaching Permit
Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent
Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education, or Psychology and have at
least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth
o *The 100 hours of on-the-job experience may be completed after starting
employment at the facility. Pending completion of the 100 hours, staff
shall not be counted in the staff to child ratio and shall not be left
unsupervised with children
Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation
demonstrating the individual as a trade journeyperson who instructs children in
vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as
a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other
relevant experience as determined by the department
Previously been employed as a full-time staff or served as a volunteer at a group
home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment
program for at least one year
Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile
justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with
children who have experienced high levels of trauma, or other relevant experience
as determined by the department
1. Must be 21 years of age
1. Must pass fingerprint clearance
1. Must obtain physical clearance and TB test prior or within 7 days of employment
1. Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of employment.
