Full Job Description

Echo Technologist – Cardiac Sonographer

Location: Bakersfield, CA
Start Date: 09/21/2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts with varied start times
Hours: 40 hours/week
Weekend: Optional
On-Call: Optional

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of cardiac ultrasound experience
Experience performing at least 600 cardiac ultrasounds
High school diploma or GED required
Strong experience operating and maintaining sonographic imaging equipment
Strong verbal, written, and computer skills
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing sonography

Required Certifications

RDCS – ARDMS or RCS – CCI
Candidates not yet certified must be eligible for certification and obtain RDCS/RCS within 90 days
BLS – American Heart Association
Current RQI Responder certification and competency

Required Clinical Skills

Cardiac Ultrasound
Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE)
Contrast Echocardiography
Dobutamine Echocardiography
Cardiac Stress Testing
Exercise and pharmacologic stress testing
Patient monitoring during stress testing
Image acquisition, selection, and storage
Sonographic equipment operation and troubleshooting
Patient preparation and positioning
Preliminary and final report preparation

Responsibilities

Perform transthoracic, contrast, and Dobutamine echocardiograms.
Assist cardiology staff with cardiac diagnostic and stress-testing procedures.
Select appropriate transducers and obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
Monitor patients throughout exercise and pharmacologic stress testing.
Review, select, and store images for physician interpretation.
Prepare preliminary and final reports as required.
Maintain accurate and retrievable records of completed studies.
Set up, operate, and maintain sonographic equipment.
Identify equipment problems and notify the appropriate supervisor.
Maintain inventory and supplies.
Explain procedures to patients and provide excellent customer service.
Work collaboratively with cardiologists and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
