Summary:
Supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of staff responsible for providing custodial operations. Ensures that school and district facilities are suitable for use by complying with cleanliness and safety requirements. Reports to and Evaluated by Director of MOG.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of custodial and general maintenance staff within the Operations Department. Ensures high levels of productivity through review of reports and direct observation of work performance.

Continually perform various staffing analysis and prepare staffing models to determine proper staffing levels at each site. Consider all unique situations at individual locations and work with the appropriate bargaining unit and Administration to modify staffing as dictated by models. Monitors evolving industry standards and operational practices to achieve goals within allocated staffing resources.

Coordinate staff restructuring and/or rebidding as mandated by school construction, modernization, boundary changes, etc. Work collaboratively with Human Resources and the appropriate bargaining unit to provide effective and efficient transitions. Assist with organization and implementation of a rebidding process if required.

Manages personnel matters, including investigations related to employee conduct and performance across all District sites. Works closely with Human Resources to ensure compliance with progressive discipline procedures. Collaborates with site Administration to maintain a safe and healthy environment for staff and students.

Participates in preparation and administration of the Custodial budgets. Submit budget recommendations, monitor expenditures, prepare estimates of cost of unanticipated events and special assignments. Prepares various reports on Operations and its activities.

Reviews inventory usage to ensure compliance with District Cleaning Standards. Investigates instances of overuse or underuse and implements corrective actions, including disciplinary measures when appropriate. Provides supervisory support to ensure custodial staff have the necessary supplies and equipment, coordinating needs with Head Custodians.

Obtain bids and coordinate with vendors for various outsourced projects such as gutter and trash bin cleaning. Evaluate effectiveness and cost efficiency.

Collaborates with staff and the appropriate bargaining unit to develop, implement, and maintain sustainable policies and procedures for effective Operations team utilization. Regularly reviews and updates procedures to align with evolving District needs and best practices.

Review and approve work schedules for custodial staff. Identify and interpret school calendars, activities, budgets and available productive time available. Coordinate daily with Operations Administrative Assistant to provide adequate coverage for each site.

Regularly review applicants and hire substitute custodians. In cooperation with Site Administration, review, interview and select candidates for open positions. Work closely with Human Resources to maintain accurate records of the hiring process and eligible candidates. Coordinate training and/or retraining as required to ensure compliance with District Cleaning Standards.

Conducts regular meetings with Head Custodians and focus groups to gather feedback and communicate District priorities, training initiatives, site-specific needs, and compliance requirements.

Meets with vendors to evaluate products and equipment intended to improve service quality. Oversees product testing and analysis to determine suitability and effectiveness.

Supervises and participates in maintaining records, performing a variety of general office tasks. Serves as liaison between District and school sites.

Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Qualifications:

The position requires thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work. Requires thorough knowledge of the principles and processes used in running a complete custodial system on an institutional scale. Requires a working knowledge of effective time-management practices. Requires a working knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and applicable work rules. Requires considerable skill in using the full range of equipment used in custodial work. Requires an in-depth knowledge of District facilities and District operations. Requires considerable knowledge of chemical safety, use and handling. Requires sufficient knowledge of work hazards and safety practices to conduct training of Custodians. Requires basic report writing and record keeping skills. Requires comprehensive computer skills including proficiency in both Microsoft and Google platforms. Experience with Munis and Frontline preferred. Continually update and monitor department spreadsheets for salaries and benefits, overtime, inventory control, and account inquiries. Approve and monitor overtime. Analyze staffing and adjust accordingly. Conduct interviews and collaborate with principals regarding evaluations and discipline. Monitor cleaning schedules and update as necessary. Available to do periodic shift work, including evenings. Requires sufficient math skills to prepare cost estimates, record and measure volumes and mixtures, and prepare budgets. Requires sufficient human relations skills to supervise others, review performance, train, and work cooperatively with internal and external customers.

Must be able to write and maintain routine and sometimes complex records according to Federal, State, local and District standards. Must be able to write reports and correspondence. Requires the ability to work varying work schedules.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors where health and safety considerations exist from occasional physical labor and handling of materials that include waste and blood born pathogens.

Salary and Terms of Service:
Salary range (4) $77,204-$93,592, nine (9) steps, eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F). Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance, prepaid life insurance plan for employee only, prorated according to number of hours worked.
