Full Job Description

Job Description – Lead RBT Support Staff

CCH/ EBSH Homes

Department: Operations

Reports To: Administrator

Classification: Hourly - Full-Time

Payrate: $23.00 - $25.00

Position Summary

The Lead RBT Support Staff is responsible for supervising and directing support staff during the assigned shift to ensure the health, safety, supervision, and individual needs of all clients are maintained. The Lead ensures staff follow AIMES Homes policies and procedures, client IPPs, behavior support plans, facility program requirements, and applicable Title 17 and Title 22 requirements.

The Lead RBT serves as the primary shift leader and is responsible for staff accountability, documentation oversight, regulatory compliance, and appropriate implementation of client services. The Lead may act as the Administrator's designee when assigned and authorized.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined below represent the primary duties of the role; however, this job description is not all inclusive, additional tasks may be assigned at Administrator’s discretion or as needed to support operational needs:

The essential duties include, but are not limited to:

Assign and direct staff in the care, supervision, and support of clients.
Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and required client supervision are maintained throughout the shift.
Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, work performance, professionalism, and completion of assigned duties.
Hold staff accountable for following client plans, facility procedures, shift assignments, documentation requirements, and supervisory direction.
Provide immediate coaching, redirection, and retraining when staff performance or compliance concerns are identified.
Document and promptly report repeated, serious, unsafe, or noncompliant staff conduct to the Administrator.
Assist the Administrator with staff performance evaluations, corrective actions, investigations, training, and employee development.
Ensure the health, safety, dignity, personal rights, and appropriate supervision of clients in accordance with applicable Title 17 and Title 22 requirements.
Ensure services are person-centered and consistent with each client's IPP, individual needs, choices, goals, and approved program plans.
Monitor staff implementation of behavior support plans, client objectives, data collection, and RBT/behavioral strategies as trained and directed.
Review staff documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timely completion, including client data, progress notes, medication documentation, and required facility records.
Ensure clients receive assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), personal hygiene, meals, community integration, transportation, and other identified supports.
Promote client independence, dignity, choice, community participation, and least restrictive supports.
Ensure staff maintain professional boundaries and appropriate interactions with clients, coworkers, families, and community members.
Immediately respond to and report injuries, medication errors, behavioral emergencies, suspected abuse or neglect, elopement, law enforcement involvement, and other unusual or reportable incidents that occur on their shift.
Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities and ensure suspected abuse or neglect is immediately reported through required channels.
Monitor the facility for health, safety, sanitation, maintenance, and environmental concerns and report deficiencies to the Administrator.
Ensure medications are handled and documented by authorized and trained staff in accordance with facility procedures and applicable requirements.
Ensure required shift-to-shift communication is completed and significant client, staffing, behavioral, medical, or facility concerns are communicated to incoming staff and management.
Assist with orientation, training, and supervision of newly assigned staff.
Attend required staff meetings, in-service training, RBT/behavioral training, and other mandatory training.
Provide transportation using company or approved personal vehicles when required.
Perform direct-care responsibilities when necessary to maintain client health, safety, supervision, and staffing coverage.

Staff Supervision and Accountability

The Lead RBT directly supervises DSPs, RBTs, and other support staff assigned to the shift. The Lead is expected to actively monitor staff performance and address deficiencies as they occur.

The Lead has responsibility to:

Assign and redistribute staff duties.
Provide operational direction and corrective coaching.
Verify assigned duties and required documentation are completed.
Address unsafe, inappropriate, or noncompliant practices immediately.
Document staff performance concerns and communicate them to the Administrator.
Recommend retraining or corrective action when appropriate.
Participate in employee evaluations and investigations when requested.

Formal disciplinary actions, suspension, termination, hiring, and other final employment decisions remain with authorized AIMES Homes management and Human Resources unless otherwise specifically authorized.

Failure to appropriately address or report known staff misconduct, client-safety concerns, abuse or neglect, regulatory violations, or repeated performance deficiencies may constitute a failure to perform the supervisory responsibilities of the Lead position.

Regulatory Compliance

The Lead RBT is responsible for supporting facility compliance with applicable California Code of Regulations, Title 17 and Title 22, Community Care Licensing requirements, Department of Developmental Services requirements, Regional Center requirements, and AIMES Homes policies and procedures.

This includes maintaining appropriate care and supervision, protecting client personal rights, following approved client and behavior plans, maintaining accurate documentation, complying with incident-reporting requirements, and ensuring staff perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that protects client health, safety, and welfare.

Work Environment

The position may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, driving, assisting with personal care, responding to emergencies, working irregular shifts, and working with clients who may exhibit verbal aggression, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, or other challenging behaviors.

The employee must be able to communicate effectively, read and complete required documentation, work independently and with others, respond appropriately during emotional or behavioral crises, and meet required reporting and documentation deadlines.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; higher education preferred.
Minimum 2 years of direct care or supervisory experience supporting individuals with I/DD.
Management experience in supervision, compliance, or quality assurance preferred.
Must hold and maintain the following:

o Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

o DSP I and DSP II

Knowledge of Title 17 and Title 22 regulations.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and the ability to work independently.
Must have ability to obtain and maintain the following:

o Valid CPR/First Aid certification (renewed annually)

o DSP I & II certifications

o CPI certification

Extensive Pre-Employment screening required including background and health.

Special Skills Needed

Ability to effectively supervise, coach, and hold staff accountable.
Ability to work professionally with individuals who exhibit significant behavioral challenges.
Strong communication, documentation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to understand and implement client IPPs, behavior support plans, policies, and facility procedures.
Ability to recognize and promptly report client-safety, staff-performance, and regulatory concerns.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
