The Manager, HR Operations, Payroll & Benefits serves as a key operational leader within the Human Resources team, responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of payroll, benefits, HR systems, compliance, and core HR operations. Reporting directly to the Head of Human Resources, this role partners closely with Finance and business leaders to deliver accurate payroll, an exceptional benefits experience, and efficient HR processes that support our growing organization.
This is much more than a payroll position. We're looking for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, leveraging technology, and creating scalable solutions. While you'll own the day-to-day execution of payroll, benefits, and HR operations, you'll also help shape how these functions evolve as Altruix continues to grow.

This is a hybrid position based in Hunt Valley, Maryland, with an expectation of working onsite two to three days per week.
Compensation: $75,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
What You'll Do
Payroll Operations
Lead all aspects of the Company's multi-state payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid accurately, timely, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Partner closely with Finance to reconcile payroll activity, oversee payroll tax compliance, manage payroll vendors, support audits, maintain payroll controls, and identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency

Benefits Administration
Administer the Company's health and welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefit programs from enrollment through ongoing administration. Manage open enrollment, qualifying life events, carrier eligibility, COBRA administration, retirement plan coordination, invoice reconciliation, and broker relationships while serving as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions.
HR Operations & Compliance
Serve as the primary administrator for the Company's HRIS, ensuring employee data integrity, system accuracy, reporting, and workflow optimization. Oversee employee lifecycle administration including onboarding, employment changes, and offboarding while maintaining HR documentation, personnel records, and standard operating procedures.
Monitor employment law and regulatory changes, support leave administration, coordinate compliance activities, assist with internal and external audits, and ensure HR practices remain compliant across all operating locations.
Process Improvement & Analytics
Develop reports, dashboards, and workforce metrics that provide meaningful insight into payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR operations. Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, standardization, and technology while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the HR function.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in payroll, HR operations, or benefits administration with direct responsibility for multi-state payroll.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, ACA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA, and related employment regulations.
- Experience administering employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and 401(k) plans.
- Experience administering HRIS and payroll systems, with responsibility for maintaining data integrity and generating meaningful reports.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential employee information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with BambooHR or comparable cloud-based HRIS platforms.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience supporting a private equity-backed or other high-growth organization.
- Experience leading or participating in HR system implementations, payroll transitions, or process improvement initiatives.
