Essential Job Functions:
The Judiciary Clerk is responsible for specialized clerical work at the beginning levels in Baltimore County District Court, in the Towson location. It requires that all essential duties assigned be performed in an accurate and prompt manner. This position may serve as a Cashier and/or back Cashier. The position received moderate supervision after the initial training period and orientation. While this position will have specific and measured assigned duties the employee will be expected to perform.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cashier and/or backup cashier. Ring in all payments from court. Ring in payments received for forms and paperwork through mail or in person. Ring in all rents and warrants received for this District (Towson). Close out the register and tills.
Responsible for dealing with customers in person and on the phone. Questions regarding
criminal, traffic, civil, rents, and domestic violence.
Accept filings in File and Serve, the electronic database that attorneys and parties in cases
file pleadings through. Filings will need to be reviewed and accepted or rejected. Task
filings to the appropriate queues.
Opens all incoming US mail, scan through system and task to appropriate section.
Assists in other departments or fill in at other court locations if needed.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill in:
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to:
Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
Use and maintain alphabetical and numerical filing systems.
Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
Equipment, Machinery and Tools:
Fax machine, computer equipment, telephone, copier, scanner.
Software and Computer Skills:
Microsoft Suites, Odyssey, personal computer knowledge
