Full Job Description

Food & Beverage Manager

We are seeking a hands-on, energetic Food & Beverage Manager to lead the daily operations of a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, alongside a full-service bar in Southern Maine.

Must be located in Southern Maine, ideally in the York, Ogunquit, Kennebunk, South Portland area.

The ideal candidate is a natural leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, builds and motivates a diverse team, and is equally comfortable directing the floor or stepping into any role: host, server, bartender, busser, or expo to keep service seamless. Above all, this person is obsessed with delivering an exceptional guest experience at every touchpoint and every meal period.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Service

Oversee all front-of-house operations across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bar service, ensuring smooth transitions between meal periods.
Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and service speed during peak volume.
Jump in to support any position as needed bartending, serving, hosting, running food, bussing, or expediting to maintain pace and quality during rushes or staffing gaps.
Monitor the dining room and bar in real time, anticipating needs and resolving bottlenecks before they affect guests.
Open and close the venue, including cash handling, reconciliation, and end-of-shift reporting.

Guest Experience

Champion a guest-first culture, setting the standard for hospitality and personally engaging with guests throughout service.
Resolve guest concerns promptly, professionally, and with a sense of ownership, turning issues into positive outcomes.
Gather and act on guest feedback to continuously improve the dining and bar experience.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise a diverse team across servers, bartenders, hosts, and support staff.
Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative work environment where every team member can succeed.
Coach and develop staff through ongoing training, performance feedback, and clear expectations.
Lead pre-shift meetings, communicate daily priorities, and keep the team aligned and motivated.

Financial & Inventory Management

Manage labor costs through effective scheduling that matches staffing to forecasted volume across all meal periods.
Oversee bar and food inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to control costs and minimize waste.
Monitor sales, costs, and key performance metrics, and contribute to meeting revenue and profitability targets.
Ensure accurate POS operation, cash controls, and inventory counts.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure full compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and food-handling regulations.
Enforce responsible alcohol service and verify all applicable licensing and certification requirements are met.
Maintain a safe environment for both guests and staff, addressing hazards proactively.

QualificationsRequired

2+ years of food and beverage management or supervisory experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a diverse team in a fast-paced setting.
Working knowledge of all front-of-house and bar positions, with the ability to perform each competently.
Strong understanding of restaurant financials, including labor, cost of goods, and inventory control.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
Proficiency with POS systems and standard scheduling/inventory software.
Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) and applicable alcohol service certification — or ability to obtain upon hire.

Preferred

Experience managing service across multiple meal periods (breakfast through dinner) plus a bar program.
Bar and beverage program knowledge, including cocktails, wine, and inventory.
Familiarity with scheduling and labor-management tools.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended shifts.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform the physical duties of any front-of-house or bar role.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with frequent peaks in volume.
