This is a Day-Shift positon that includes some weekend availability required.
As a member of the Environmental Services Department, the Housekeeper/Laundry aide· Cleans assigned areas and assists in laundry as needed.
- Follows schedule developed by supervisor.
- The Laundry Aide performs duties such as sorting, washing, drying, finishing and distribution linens and personal clothing in a manner according to facility policy.

- Assist in emergencies that occur in the residence.
- Meet and exceed Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation standards for hospitality and services.

- Must be able to handle high volume of laundry.

- Observes and practices Infection Control and Universal Precautions in accordance with St. Mary’s Villa Campus Standards.
- Utilizes equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Observes and promptly reports equipment safety hazards or defective/malfunctioning equipment or supplies.
- Separate, wash, dry and fold all resident laundry, including personal items, towels, linens, bibs, etc.
- Remove soiled briefs from brief containers and wash as needed.
- Sort resident laundry into appropriate sections. Fold necessary clothes/linens and hang garments on racks as needed.
- Distribute resident laundry to each unit via laundry carts.
- Report changes in resident behavior or unusual circumstances to Director of Nursing
- Perform all duties in a manner consistent with regulations set forth by the State of Maine
- Participate in continuing education as required.
- Punctually starts workday and does not abuse PTO days, break time, or overtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (job specific, * indicates essential core duties)
· Sweep, mop and otherwise clean common areas of the building and resident rooms.· Strip resident’s beds, launder linens and towels.
- Remake resident’s bed with new linen
- Clean bathrooms and kitchens
- Dust
- Remove trash, spoiled food, flowers, etc.
- Restock supplies as appropriate.
- Report safety concerns or maintenance issues to the Manager of Housekeeping
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understand the rights and needs of older adults
- Communicate clearly with residents, staff, and families
- Lift 50 lbs, sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, push and pull as required throughout eight hour shift
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
- Minimum of one year experience as a cleaner in a residential, hospital or healthcare setting
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Possess good communication skills in English:
- Enabling interaction with coworkers and residents
- Sensitive listening skills, good comprehension, effective speaking ability
- Reading and writing at level needed to fulfill job
REASONING/JUDGMENT ABILITY:
Ability to think clearly, assess and follow up in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
Must be patient and understanding of individual needs of residents and staff. These include physical, emotional and spiritual needs as related to the process of aging and adjustment to an assisted living setting.
