Full Job Description

Challenger seeks someone with experience and enjoyment working with kids to facilitate immersive NASA-like space mission simulations/science education programs at the Challenger Learning Center of Maine. Responsibilities would also include afterschool programs, public events, vacation/summer camps and birthday parties. Flexible hours, some evenings and weekends. Applicants must be comfortable speaking in front of people, and have a proficiency with technology. Teacher experience is not required, however; anyone who is mature and enthusiastic with kids is encouraged to apply. Space science background is NOT required- just a great attitude to learn.

Experience and education:

Preferred Bachelors’ degree in a science-related field or equivalent field; or bachelors’ of science or bachelors’ of arts in education with emphasis in STEM education;
Ability to work effectively with groups of adults and children of all ages;
Ability to effectively communicate with people of all ages who have diverse backgrounds, abilities, and scientific knowledge;
Have excellent presentation, verbal and written communications skills;
Preferred experience with curriculum development and implementation of hands-on activities;
Ability to perform limited technical problem-solving; and
Public speaking with the ability to foster and create an exciting and animated learning environment.

Facilitator Duties:

Lead and assist with school, corporate team-building, private, and public simulated space missions for youth;
Assisting with space- and STEM-related activity sessions for Youth;
Assist in the development, revision, presentation, evaluation, and maintenance of quality educational programs for the Challenger Learning Center;
Assist in training of Challenger Learning Center staff and volunteers;
Setting up the simulator computers and equipment to prepare for a Simulated Space Mission, and shutting down the simulator at the end of the day;
Assist in installing, evaluating and revising new mission scenarios;
Participating in ongoing STEM education programs;
Making promotional visits to schools, community groups, and public events;
Developing and implementing Afterschool, School Year Vacation and Summer Camp programs; and
Preparing, maintaining, and revising Simulated Space Mission supplies and materials.
Perform virtual space mission simulations with schools and youth organizations.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
