The City of Bangor, Maine Fire Department is accepting applications to fill immediate openings for Fire Medics (Paramedics preferred) or Advanced EMTs. This position is essential in delivering advanced life support (ALS) and emergency medical care while supporting fire operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
The Bangor Fire Department is the second largest professional fire department in the State of Maine, protecting a city of 31,000 that is rich in history and is the commercial and social center of Northern, Central, and Eastern Maine. In addition to providing fire protection and emergency medical services, Bangor Fire provides a variety of other response/services including a Heavy Rescue that provides technical rescue capabilities within the region, a marine response with 2 boats including the only fire boat in the region, opportunities to serve on the Police Department’s Special Response Team, and EMS support to large events at the Maine Savings Amphitheater and the Cross Insurance Center. Bangor Fire Medics work an attractive rotating schedule of two (2) twenty-four (24) hour days per week (1day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 5 days off) with NO FORCED OVERTIME or residency requirement. Fire Medics also receive a highly competitive wage package with a pay range of $30.86 – $36.17/hour (DOE), which includes the $2.00/hour ambulance stipend, an educational incentive of $5,000 for Paramedic certification, as well as other educational incentives.

Lateral Transfers:
BFD welcomes applicants with career department experience and qualifications to apply. Lateral transfer for pay and vacation accrual up to 6 years of experience or step g is possible as outlined in the current Local 772 collective bargaining agreement. In addition, educational incentives of $2,500 for EMTA and $5,000 for EMTP are available for applicants who already possess these certifications.

Applicants will undergo an extensive evaluation including a physical ability test, written test and interview. Successful applicants will also be required to pass a background check and psychological evaluation.
