Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Manager is responsible for helping oversee the daily operations of Prairie House Food & Spirits. This role ensures excellent guest service, supports and leads staff, maintains a clean and organized restaurant, and helps create a positive, team-focused work environment. The Assistant Manager is expected to lead by example and step into any position when needed to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

Lead by example with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Help hire, train, coach, and motivate team members.
Assist with scheduling and ensuring proper staffing levels.
Hold employees accountable to Prairie House standards and policies.
Address employee concerns professionally and communicate with ownership as needed.
Help maintain a positive, respectful workplace culture.

Guest Experience

Ensure every guest receives friendly, attentive service.
Resolve guest concerns or complaints quickly and professionally.
Visit tables when appropriate to ensure guest satisfaction.
Promote nightly specials, drink specials, and upcoming events.

Restaurant Operations

Open and close the restaurant following company procedures.
Ensure the dining room, bar, patio, kitchen, restrooms, and exterior remain clean, organized, and welcoming.
Monitor food quality, presentation, and service times.
Assist wherever needed, including serving, bartending, hosting, bussing, food running, or dishwashing.
Ensure employees follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.

Cash Handling & Inventory

Count drawers and complete opening/closing cash procedures.
Assist with deposits and daily sales reporting.
Monitor inventory levels and notify management when ordering is needed.
Help reduce waste and control food and beverage costs.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure all alcohol service follows Wisconsin laws and company policies.
Enforce food safety and sanitation standards.
Report accidents, maintenance issues, or safety concerns immediately.

Qualifications

Previous restaurant or bar management experience preferred.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
Excellent customer service skills.
Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated.
Basic computer and POS system knowledge.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
