Full Job Description

Overview

The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the daily financial operations of Sturgis Charter Public School. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, and a working knowledge of accounting principles and financial software.

Duties

● Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger entries

● Process accounts payable and accounts receivable

● Reconcile bank and credit card statements

● Prepare and process deposits

● Assist with payroll processing and related documentation

● Monitor budgets and track expenditures

● Maintain grant and restricted fund tracking, as applicable

● Prepare financial reports and spreadsheets as requested

● Assist with monthly and year-end closing procedures

● Ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting procedures

● Maintain organized electronic and paper financial files

● Communicate with vendors, staff, and external partners regarding financial matters

● Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with special projects and audits

Qualifications

● Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred

● Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred

● Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices

● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software

● Strong attention to detail and accuracy

● Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

● Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

● Excellent organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience working in a school or nonprofit environment

● Familiarity with grant tracking and reporting

● Experience with payroll systems and financial management software

Environment

This position primarily operates in an office environment and may require extended periods of computer work.

Reports To Director of Finance and Operations

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
