My name is Chris. I'm the owner and founder of Black & Brew, a coffee house and cafe which first opened its doors in 2006 in downtown Lakeland. In opening my own business, one of my most important objectives was to build a POSITIVE work culture in which every individual was treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. In my own experience, I found that taking a job in the hospitality arena often meant dealing with toxic or even hostile working conditions. Fresh Prep Team Member

As a Fresh Prep Team Member you'll be working to build the best sandwiches, salads, soups and flatbreads in town! You'll get the instant gratification of seeing our customers enjoy all of the effort you've put into creating an equally beautiful and delicious menu item. Because we largely work with whole ingredients, you'll be prepping fresh veggies, preparing sides (like our Quinoa Salad and Potato Salad) making sauces and dressings, and slicing deli meats and cheeses. Black & Brew is a super busy cafe, so shifts as a Fresh Prep Team Member fly by! Don't worry though, you are always supported by a well-organized team and top-notch leaders. We keep the work environment professional, but light. We encourage and foster good working relationships and want to be a place you enjoy coming to work.

Here's a sampling of your responsibilities:

Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
Follow prep list created by management
Follow recipes to build scratch-made menu item components
Work on a line creating sandwiches, salads and flatbreads
Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
Requirements
Previous kitchen experience is always a plus, but a great attitude with a hunger to learn may trump experience
A team player with good communication skills and a POSITIVE attitude
Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
Ability to stay positive and composed under pressure
Ability to accommodate the physical requirements of the job: lifting, bending, long periods on your feet
High School diploma or equivalent is desirable

Applicants will also be expected to be able to work on their feet for several hours at a time and lift potentially heavy objects when necessary. Prior experience is preferred, but not necessary.

Black & Brew is an independently owned coffee shop and cafe located in Lakeland, FL. Pay: $16 - $17 / hour
