Position Summary

We are looking for a knowledgeable and disciplined General Sales Manager (.... or General Manager looking to take charge) to oversee our variable sales department. The ideal candidate is a market expert who understands that success in new car merchandising and that used cars gross is built on "buying them right" and managing the "reconditioning clock." You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of our pre-owned inventory, from acquisition to the final sale, ensuring a high-quality selection for our customers and healthy profitability for the dealership.

Core Responsibilities

Inventory & Acquisition:

Strategic Sourcing: Acquire inventory through diverse channels including auctions, trade-ins, and "street purchases" (buying from the public).
Market Analysis: Utilize tools like vAuto or Provision to monitor market days' supply, price-to-market percentages, and retail trends.
Appraisal Accuracy: Provide firm, data-backed appraisals for trade-ins, balancing the need to win the deal with the need to maintain inventory margin.

Reconditioning & Logistics:

Service Liaison: Collaborate with the Service Department to streamline the reconditioning process, ensuring vehicles are "front-line ready" within dealership time standards.
Quality Control: Inspect every vehicle for safety, mechanical integrity, and cosmetic standards before it hits the lot.
Wholesale Management: Identify and dispose of aged inventory or "non-retail" units through wholesale channels or auctions.

Sales & Merchandising:

Digital Presence: Ensure all used inventory is photographed, described accurately, and priced competitively on our website and third-party listing sites.
Floor Leadership: Assist the sales team in presenting pre-owned options to customers, highlighting the value and history of our inventory.
Gross Profit Management: Desk deals with a focus on maintaining a healthy balance between volume and per-unit profit.

Experience & Skills

Used Car Expertise: Minimum of 4 years in automotive management with a specific focus on used vehicle operations.
Tool Proficiency: Mastery of inventory management software (e.g., vAuto, Provision, or Homenet) and CRM systems.
Market Intuition: A deep understanding of local market trends, seasonal demand, and vehicle valuations (KBB, NADA, Black Book).
Leadership: A professional, supportive management style that encourages sales consultants and maintains a positive culture.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent; advanced degree, preferred.
Proven experience in vehicle purchasing
Proven experience managing profitability and customer satisfaction.
Familiarity with employment laws and appropriate ways to handle employee compliance with Florida state and local regulations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively deal with customers, employees, and vendors.
