IMMEDIATE FULL-TIME OPENING
Lead Electrician
Hands-On Electrical Systems Department Head
Employer: Inspiratus Construction LLC
Location: Bastian, Virginia; travel throughout Bland County and nearby Southwest Virginia
Pay: $25-$35 per hour, based on experience, licensing, and demonstrated capabilities; exceptional candidates may be considered above the range
Schedule: 40 hours guaranteed, Monday-Friday; additional approved hours generally available up to approximately 48 hours at the employee's choice
The Opportunity
Inspiratus Construction LLC is hiring an experienced, hands-on electrical leader to build and own our electrical department. This is not simply another electrician position and it is not a desk-only management role. You will plan and lead the work, remain active in field execution, establish department standards and maintenance programs, direct helpers, and help hire and develop future junior electrical staff.
Why This Role Is Different
Unlike a traditional electrical contractor, we install, maintain, and improve systems serving facilities that we own and operate. The portfolio includes wellness resorts, hospitality and lodging, employee housing, commercial kitchens, agricultural operations, recreational facilities, and active development projects. You will influence systems from early planning and rough-in through final installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and future improvement.
Responsibilities
· Build and lead the electrical department while remaining actively involved in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, planning, and field execution.
· Own work planning, priorities, quality standards, safety practices, tooling, documentation, staffing recommendations, parts, and inventory.
· Plan and execute electrical work for new construction, renovations, service upgrades, maintenance, and facility improvements.
· Install, troubleshoot, and maintain residential and commercial distribution systems, including switchgear, CT cabinets, transformers, panels, feeders, branch circuits, and associated equipment within demonstrated qualifications.
· Coordinate and perform underground, sub-slab, in-wall, and overhead raceways; conductor pulls; equipment setting; terminations; labeling; testing; commissioning; and closeout documentation.
· Support three-phase systems, generators, transfer equipment, emergency distribution, critical-load planning, controls, and low-voltage systems within demonstrated qualifications.
· Evaluate imported or nonstandard equipment requiring voltage conversion, transformers, controls coordination, or engineered solutions.
· Provide lead electrical support for HVAC, refrigeration, heat-pump, commercial kitchen, wellness, and facility-equipment installations.
· Establish preventive-maintenance, inspection, testing, labeling, and recordkeeping practices for electrical assets across the portfolio.
· Review design intent with the Director of Projects and provide practical input on constructability, electrical room and switchgear space, access, sequencing, material selection, serviceability, and long-term maintenance.
· Collaborate on labor and material estimates, procurement, schedules, and inspection coordination under the direction of the Director of Projects.
· Select vendors and equipment and control departmental inventory within approved project budgets.
· Direct helpers drawn initially from our internal construction team; participate in selecting, hiring, training, and mentoring future junior staff as trust and workload develop.
· Coordinate with project leadership, facility operators, utilities, engineers, inspectors, and outside contractors; recognize when work requires an engineer, utility, licensed specialty contractor, or other outside support.
· Support adjacent construction and facility needs when priorities require. The right person is a broad problem-solver who is willing to step outside a narrow trade lane.
· Respond to genuine emergency facility needs. Across these in-house technical roles, the organization experienced approximately two emergency callouts during the previous 12 months.
Required Qualifications
· Demonstrated senior-level electrical installation, troubleshooting, construction, or facility-maintenance experience; five or more years is strongly preferred.
· Broad practical capability across new construction, renovations, services, panels, three-phase systems, generators, controls, troubleshooting, and low-voltage work.
· Ability and willingness to function as a hands-on department head, make sound decisions, direct helpers, and verify critical terminations, testing, and completed work.
· Strong knowledge of safe electrical work practices and applicable codes, with the judgment to seek engineering, utility, or specialty support when needed.
· Ability to read construction drawings, one-lines, panel schedules, specifications, equipment documentation, and controls diagrams.
· Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
· Reliable follow-through, professional communication, accurate documentation, and a safety-first approach.
· Ability to work on ladders, in electrical and mechanical rooms, in confined spaces, outdoors in varying weather, and to safely move trade tools and equipment.
Preferred Experience
· Current Virginia Journeyman or Master Electrician license. A license is preferred, not required; work is permitted through the company's general contracting operations as applicable.
· Experience coordinating inspections, planning installations, estimating labor and materials, ordering equipment, managing inventory, and documenting completed work.
· Experience with large commercial services, switchgear, CT cabinets, transformers, backup power, imported equipment, hospitality, commercial kitchens, agriculture, or multi-building facilities.
· Prior responsibility for mentoring electricians, directing helpers, leading projects, or building a maintenance program.
Schedule and Work Environment
Full-time, in-person field position. Forty hours are guaranteed. Additional approved hours are generally available up to approximately 48 hours at the employee's choice. Work is primarily Monday-Friday with rare evening, weekend, or emergency response.
Compensation and Benefits
· Employer contribution toward health insurance, up to the full employee premium depending on the negotiated compensation package; spouse or family coverage may be supported as part of the negotiated package. Eligibility begins within the first six months.
· One week of paid time off after six months; two weeks after five years of employment.
· Six paid holidays selected by the employee, subject to reasonable advance notice and operational coverage, after six months.
· Company work vehicle that may be taken home. Company fuel is provided for business use; the employee is responsible for personal or commuting fuel/use.
· Company-supported tool purchasing account and necessary equipment.
· Training, licensing, and certification reimbursement.
· Sign-on bonus available for highly qualified candidates, based on credentials and an agreed written offer.
· Overtime paid in accordance with applicable law; overtime must be approved in advance except for a genuine emergency.
· Year-round work, home most nights and weekends, and long-term authority to build a department and team.
Who Will Succeed Here
This role is best for someone who wants real ownership and accountability. You should be comfortable leading from the field, organizing a new department, solving unusual problems, collaborating with design and construction leadership, and helping with related facility work when the team needs you.
