What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an Inbound Material Flow Engineer to drive system-level design and optimization for inbound material flow logistics and warehousing. In this role, you will join the Inbound Material Flow team and integrate inputs from material planning, supplier sourcing, packaging, manufacturing, and logistics to design and optimize end-to-end material flow. You will apply Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Manufacturing Engineering, Discrete Event Simulation and Supply Chain fundamentals to improve factory efficiency and scalability in support of Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This role is based in Austin, TX.

What You'll Do-
Develop warehouse storage strategies evaluating selective, drive-in, push-back, pallet flow and automated racking solutions to maximize throughput and inventory accessibility

Design and execute logistics strategies encompassing route optimization, network design and inventory control systems

Deploy cost-effective transportation solutions leveraging intermodal transportation (IMDL), JIT, cross-docking and milk run logistics

Collaborate with Packaging Engineering, Material Planning, Supply Chain, Finance and related teams to implement logistics and warehouse design strategies

Develop models to reduce on-hand inventory, minimize warehousing and reduce overall part cost

Lead cross-functional efforts to localize supplier base and execute localization projects

Identify packaged part density improvements with the Packaging team to reduce logistics and storage costs

Manage warehouse, logistics yard and factory raw material buffer size projections over time
What You'll Bring-
Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or equivalent experience

2+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing, with a focus on material flow, supply chain, warehouse and logistics or process improvements (internship experience considered)

Strong experience in warehousing and logistics concept design along with pallet racking solutions design and implementation knowledge

Knowledge of SQL, Python, Excel with VBA, Tableau and Power BI for data processing, modeling and analysis

Quantitative system-level problem solving and data-driven decision-making for executive summaries

Experience with layout design in AutoCAD, including greenfield facility layouts, warehouse and material flow

Leadership driving cross-functional projects in high-volume manufacturing environments with strong verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency in linear Programming, discrete event simulation (ARENA, FlexSim) and packaging optimization and qualification testing (ISTA, ISO) experience preferred
