Welder / Conveyor Technician – Scrap Metal Yard
Compensation
Starting at $30.00/hour, with potential for higher starting pay based on relevant experience.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Welder / Conveyor Technician to support the maintenance and repair of conveyor systems and heavy industrial equipment within a busy scrap metal recycling facility. This position requires strong welding, fabrication, and mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment in a demanding industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- PerformMIG, stick, and structural welding on conveyors, chutes, platforms, guards, and other equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintainconveyor systems, including belts, rollers, pulleys, bearings, chains, and sprockets.
- Perform conveyor belt repairs, adjustments, tracking, and component replacement.
- Fabricate and install steel components, brackets, guards, supports, and equipment modifications.
- Perform preventive maintenance and respond to equipment breakdowns.
- Use cutting torches, grinders, plasma cutters, and other fabrication tools.
- Assist with repairs to shredders, screens, material handling equipment, and other scrap-processing machinery.
- Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE, and facility safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Qualifications
- Previous industrial welding, conveyor maintenance, millwright, or heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong MIG and stick welding skills.
- Experience repairing and maintaining industrial conveyor systems.
- Ability to read measurements and perform basic fabrication from drawings or field measurements.
- Comfortable working around heavy machinery and in outdoor/industrial conditions.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb, bend, and work at heights when required.
- Scrap yard, recycling, steel mill, aggregate, quarry, or similar heavy industrial experience is a plus.
