Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) is responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the clinical education component of the Respiratory Care Program in accordance with the standards established by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, SUNY regulations, and institutional policies of Genesee Community College.
The DCE works collaboratively with the Program Director, medical director, faculty, clinical affiliates, and students to ensure high-quality clinical learning experiences that support student success, credentialing preparation, professional development, and achievement of program outcomes.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Education Administration:
Coordinate and supervise all clinical education activities for the Respiratory Care Program.
Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical education policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with current Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care standards and accreditation requirements related to clinical education.
Serve as liaison between the college and affiliated clinical agencies.
Schedule and assign students to clinical affiliates and simulation experiences.
Conduct regular clinical site visits and maintain communication with clinical preceptors and department leadership.
Evaluate clinical sites to ensure appropriate learning opportunities and clinical competencies.
Student Clinical Oversight:
Monitor student clinical progress, attendance, competencies, professionalism, and performance.
Track and document clinical attendance, tardiness, absences, and make-up requirements.
Review and monitor student competency completion and clinical evaluations.
Counsel students regarding clinical performance and professional behaviors as needed.
Maintain accurate clinical education records and documentation.
Trajecsys and Documentation Management:
Administer and monitor the clinical tracking system, including Trajecsys.
Review and validate clinical competencies, attendance records, evaluations, case logs, and required documentation within the platform.
Generate reports related to student progression, competency completion, and program outcomes.
Assist faculty, students, and preceptors with troubleshooting and effective use of Trajecsys.
Clinical Onboarding and Compliance:
Review and maintain student health and compliance records for clinical onboarding.
Ensure students meet all clinical affiliate requirements prior to participation in clinical education.
Track and verify required documentation including:

Immunizations and health records

Background checks and drug screenings when necessary

CPR certification

HIPAA training
-
HIV training
-
Confidentiality agreements and affiliate-specific onboarding modules
Communicate compliance deficiencies and deadlines to students in a timely manner.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Teach didactic, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical Respiratory Care Program courses as assigned with an expected maximum teaching load of 22 contact hours each academic year (fall - spring). Additional summer teaching is required but compensation beyond annual salary is provided as defined by the GEA contract.
Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, assessments, and learning activities consistent with program and college outcomes.
Participate in curriculum review and revision to align with evolving respiratory care practice, credentialing standards, and accreditation expectations.
Support student preparation for NBRC credentialing examinations.
Accreditation, Assessment, and Program Improvement:
Participate in ongoing program assessment, outcomes analysis, and continuous quality improvement activities.
Assist with preparation and maintenance of accreditation reports and documentation for Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
Collect, analyze, and report clinical and student outcomes data.
Participate in advisory committee meetings, faculty meetings, and program planning initiatives.
Professional and Institutional Service:
Maintain current knowledge and competence in respiratory care practice and education.
Participate in professional development and scholarly activities.
Support recruitment, retention, student advising, and community outreach activities.
Represent the Respiratory Care Program at college and community events.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or college administration
Job Requirements:
Required:

Bachelor's degree in respiratory care required.
-
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Current New York State Respiratory Therapist license or eligibility for licensure.

Minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including recent clinical practice.

Knowledge of accreditation standards and clinical education requirements related to Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care

Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Must complete the CoARC Key Personnel Academy within 18 months of hire.

Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity.
Preferred:

Master's degree in respiratory care, Education, Health Sciences, or related discipline.

Experience in clinical education, teaching, or student supervision.

Experience with electronic clinical tracking systems such as Trajecsys.

Experience with accreditation reporting and outcomes assessment.

Experience in simulation-based education.

Prior college teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to travel to clinical affiliates.

Ability to function in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments.

Ability to use standard office and instructional technology.
Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Director of Respiratory Care Program.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time, 200 day position at 35 hours per week. If hired at instructor faculty rank, compensation is $76,827.29. Salary could be adjusted higher based on education and experience for a higher faculty rank. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
