What You'll Do
As a Service Plumbing Technician, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain residential plumbing systems while delivering an exceptional experience to every customer. You’ll be expected to combine strong technical skills with professionalism, communication, and a customer-first approach.
Key responsibilities include:
- Complete residential plumbing, drain cleaning, repair, maintenance, and related in-home service calls.
- Accurately diagnose plumbing issues and recommend cost-effective, long-term solutions.
- Clearly explain plumbing problems and services to customers in easy-to-understand terms.
- Present Good, Better, and Best solution options so customers can make informed decisions.
- Build strong customer relationships and recommend appropriate products and services based on their needs.
- Understand individual and team performance expectations and take ownership of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
- Educate customers about available financing options, maintenance plans, and the Dr. Rooter membership program.
- Re-check and document completed repairs and installations before leaving the customer's home to ensure the issue has been fully resolved.
- Protect customers' homes by wearing floor-saving boot covers and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
- Maintain a professional appearance and communicate respectfully and confidently with customers.
- Keep your assigned truck or van clean, organized, properly stocked, and presentable at all times.
- Maintain accurate and timely invoices, timecards, option sheets, and curbside feedback.
- Work closely with Customer Service, Dispatch, and other team members to support efficient day-to-day operations.
- Follow all Dr. Rooter safety standards, Team Rules, and Code of Ethics.
- Maintain proper inventory of required tools, materials, and equipment.
- Participate actively in company training, morning meetings, contractor classes, and team retreats.
- Train and mentor apprentices to help develop their technical skills and ensure safe, accurate work.
- Always prioritize safety while working, operating equipment, and driving company vehicles.
What We're Looking ForMinimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in home services, plumbing, skilled trades, or a related technical field.
- Plumbing license or certification preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing system maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of applicable International Plumbing Code requirements and current plumbing regulations.
- Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to explain plumbing systems, repairs, and recommendations to customers in clear, non-technical language.
- Strong customer service skills and a professional, customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
- General knowledge of power tools, safe operating practices, and equipment maintenance.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to meet driving requirements established by the company's insurance provider.
- Ability and willingness to work more than 40 hours per week when needed, including shifts of up to 12 hours.
Military experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Climb ladders and safely work around plumbing equipment.
- Lift up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the workday.
- Pick up and carry at least 25 pounds for distances of up to 250 feet without assistance.
- Safely operate handheld power tools and other plumbing equipment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform the physical duties associated with residential plumbing and service work.
Preferred Licenses & Certifications
The following are preferred but not required unless otherwise specified:
- Contractor's Plumbing License
- Backflow Certification
- Commercial Gas License
- Level II/III Tankless Certification
- Excavator License
- Valid Driver's License — required
Compensation
$75,000–$150,000 per year
Compensation is based on individual and team performance and may include:
- Hourly pay
- Commission pay for on-call work
