About Accuthread
Accuthread Ballscrew is a fast-growing manufacturer of precision ground ballscrews for the aerospace, military, and commercial industries. Based in Saginaw, Michigan, we build mission-critical components to the highest industry standards. As a small, fast-moving team, every person here has a direct hand in how we build, and how we grow.
The Role
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a production and materials planner. You'll own the master production schedule, plan the materials that feed it, and work directly with suppliers to keep the floor running. You'll wear multiple hats, make decisions that matter, and see the results of your work immediately.
What You'll Do
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Own the Master Production Schedule, building schedules that balance customer demand against material, labor, and machine capacity.
- Monitor and adjust schedules as conditions change, and develop contingency and recovery plans when they slip.
- Manage contract delivery schedules and customer commitments, and serve as the planning liaison across every department.
- Support SIOP and capacity planning, and facilitate cross-functional problem solving when demand and capacity conflict.
Material Planning & Inventory
- Lead material planning to support the production schedule, and monitor shortages before they become line stoppages.
- Drive inventory reduction initiatives and work cross-functionally to clear excess and obsolete stock.
- Track inventory metrics, lead times, and throughput, and identify cost savings opportunities.
- Support inventory visibility, material tracking, receiving coordination, and delivery planning for production and project materials.
Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Support sourcing for raw materials, tooling, manufacturing equipment, technical components, and critical services.
- Identify, evaluate, and maintain qualified suppliers based on cost, quality, technical capability, lead time, delivery reliability, and commercial terms.
- Prepare and issue RFQs, RFPs, and supplier inquiries; review quotations, compare pricing and terms, and prepare procurement recommendations.
- Support negotiations on pricing, delivery, payment terms, warranty, and quality expectations, and partner with Procurement to improve supplier performance.
- Monitor market conditions, material availability, pricing trends, and lead-time risk to inform sourcing decisions.
- Track supplier performance and escalate delivery delays, quality concerns, and supply continuity risks to the right stakeholders.
Purchasing & Order Execution
- Create, process, maintain, and close purchase orders in ERP, verifying quantities, pricing, specifications, delivery requirements, and terms.
- Track PO status, supplier commitments, shipment updates, and backorders, and resolve discrepancies, incorrect shipments, damaged material, and invoice issues.
- Coordinate logistics and material flow with warehouse, engineering, and production teams to keep material available when it is needed.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier documentation, and quotation logs for reporting and audit.
Process & Systems Improvement
- Maintain and improve planning policies, procedures, tools, and reports.
- Cross-train and coach others on planning functions, and set department objectives aligned with company goals.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, or materials management in a manufacturing environment, ideally aerospace, defense, or other tight-tolerance industries.
- Strong command of MRP/ERP systems and the ability to build, maintain, and troubleshoot a master production schedule.
- Hands-on experience with sourcing, RFQs, purchase order execution, and supplier performance management.
- A track record of reducing inventory, shortening lead times, and improving on-time delivery.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and material specifications well enough to buy and plan against them.
- A self-starter who thrives in a small team, comfortable wearing multiple hats, taking ownership, and moving fast with limited structure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and clear written and verbal communication across every department and with suppliers.
