Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom and related activities, including, but not limited to; instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus as assigned. The Instructor must adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the College Policies and Procedures Manual, Department policies and procedures, the Dean, and the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.

Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule D1 (9 months).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

Develops curriculum, plans and organizes program courses in coordination with other department instructors, appropriate Division Chair, Director, and/or Dean to ensure compliance with curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; Ensures that assigned classes are held as scheduled; Plans each unit or lesson, both as to content and method, to make each class minute meaningful; Organizes each course taught into an effective instrument of learning; Studies and utilizes the characteristics of the students in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations; Maximizes the learning opportunities for each student; and Utilizes proficiency with virtual meeting and presentation formats for class meetings, as well as College meetings, as needed.
Effectively teaches lecture and/or lab (if applicable) courses as needed courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Coastal Alabama Community College campus or work site.
Assists in implementing College policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with College philosophy and procedures including, but not limited to; Conducts class evaluations and completing other College evaluations in accordance with College policy; Posts and maintains office hours for student consultations; Files an appropriate course syllabus and/or course outline with the Division Chair, Director, and/or Dean for each course taught; Submits all required reports, keeping accurate class rolls, and submits attendance verification as required to the appropriate administrative personnel; and Holds the final exam at the designated time scheduled according to the Final Exam schedule.
Keeps students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers, projects, skill assessments, midterm grades, and other work. Responds to student communication within 24 hours Monday through Friday.
Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment (if applicable) to Division Chairs, including, but not limited to; participating in the College’s library collection of development by selecting, evaluating, and weeding library resources in each appropriate discipline.
Works closely with the appropriate Division Chair on the development of annual Division budgets for approval by the Dean.
Serves as an academic advisor for students, as needed.
Completes referrals (Retention Alerts, Crisis Intervention Alerts, etc.) to appropriate Student Support Services personnel as needed.
Assists with College registrations and recruitment and retention of students.
Remains active at a high level of expertise (credentials) and stimulates enthusiasm for those subjects by keeping informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities. Strives for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the College. Makes suggestions to the Division Chair, the Instructional Affairs Committee, the Director, and/or the Dean concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the procedures, proper chain of command, and objectives of the College.
Satisfactorily completes Distance Education Certification (DEC) at Coastal Alabama before or by the end of the first semester of employment if teaching Distance Education course.

Complies with ACCS and College policies, as well as state and federal laws.
Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Unencumbered Alabama registered nurse license or appropriate multi-state licensure.
Experience as a registered nurse in a specific medical department/unit or course taught. Refer to a specific job posting for additional information.
Evidence of excellent clinical skills and experience providing clinical supervision of nurses or nursing students.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated flexibility in handling diverse course loads.
Ability to traverse to teach on multiple campuses.
Exhibit digital literacy through appropriate use of Office 365 programs and various College platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Nursing experience in a hospital.
Teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Experience integrating or demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the classroom.
Pediatric, Medical-Surgical, and/or Critical Care Experience Preferred
