Manufacturing ERP / AI Automation Developer

On-Site Position

Pay: $60,000 – $75,000 per year
Location: Cogbill Construction – Vidor, TX
Work Location: In person only. This is NOT a remote position.

About Us

Cogbill Construction is a metal fabrication company in Vidor, Texas. We have built our own internal ERP system to manage estimating, quoting, jobs, inventory, purchasing, production, maintenance, reporting, and daily operations.

We are looking for a practical, hands-on person who can improve this system, build automation tools, organize data, and help us add useful AI capabilities to our business.

This is not a “theory” or research role. We need someone who can work with real business problems, real shop-floor processes, and real users in the office and fabrication shop.

Position Summary

We are hiring a Manufacturing ERP / AI Automation Developer to help improve our home-built ERP system and build practical tools for our metal fabrication business.

The right person will have programming and database experience, be comfortable learning an existing system, and be willing to understand how estimating, inventory, purchasing, production, maintenance, and job costing work in a fabrication shop.

AI experience is helpful, but we are not looking for someone who only knows how to use ChatGPT. We need someone who can combine programming, SQL, APIs, data organization, workflow automation, and AI tools to create reliable business systems.

What You Will Work On

You may help build or improve tools for:

Estimating and quoting
Job costing and cost estimation
Production tracking and scheduling
Work orders and job routing
Shop travelers and job status tracking
Inventory control and material tracking
Purchasing and vendor data
Preventive maintenance and equipment maintenance tracking
Dashboards, reports, and KPIs
Document handling, OCR, and structured data extraction
AI-assisted estimating, quoting, reporting, and workflow automation
Data cleanup, database organization, and ERP improvements

Responsibilities

Improve and expand our internal ERP system
Write scripts, tools, reports, forms, and automations using Python, SQL, APIs, and related technologies
Build AI-assisted tools using LLMs, AI APIs, document AI, OCR, or automation agents where they make practical sense
Create dashboards and reports for management, estimating, production, inventory, and maintenance
Automate repetitive office and administrative tasks
Help organize business data and improve database structure
Work with office staff, estimators, managers, and shop employees to understand problems and build useful solutions
Identify bottlenecks in workflow, production, maintenance, inventory, and reporting
Document systems, processes, and improvements so they can be maintained long term

Required Qualifications

Programming experience with Python or a similar scripting/programming language
SQL and database experience
Ability to work on an existing custom ERP, internal business system, or legacy application
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate with non-technical users
Willingness to learn metal fabrication operations
Comfortable working on-site with both office and shop personnel
Ability to turn messy business processes into practical software tools

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

ERP, MRP, MES, CMMS, or manufacturing business systems
Manufacturing, metal fabrication, steel fabrication, welding, CNC, plasma cutting, laser cutting, press brake, CAD/CAM, or shop-floor operations
Job costing, estimating, quoting, BOMs, inventory, purchasing, work orders, production scheduling, or maintenance tracking
Python, SQL, JavaScript, REST APIs, web applications, dashboards, reporting, Excel automation, Power BI, or Microsoft Access
Database design, ETL, data cleanup, structured data, or reporting systems
OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude API, ChatGPT, Claude, LLMs, AI agents, RAG, OCR, or document automation
Git, documentation, testing, and maintaining internal software systems
Engineering, industrial technology, computer information systems, management information systems, computer science, or a related technical field

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.

Equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.

A position where all requirements are already perfectly defined
