Chief Engineer

Location: Holiday Inn East Medical Center – An IHG Hotel
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Holiday Inn East Medical Center, an IHG Hotel, is seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department. The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the hotel is maintained in a safe, efficient, and guest-ready condition by overseeing all building systems, preventive maintenance programs, and repair activities. This leader plays a key role in protecting the hotel's assets while delivering an exceptional guest experience in accordance with IHG brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, and develop the Engineering team to ensure efficient daily operations.
Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, kitchen, laundry, and life safety systems.
Establish and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment and facilities.
Ensure compliance with IHG brand standards, local building codes, fire and life safety regulations, and OSHA requirements.
Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, meeting areas, and back-of-house facilities to identify maintenance needs.
Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations and implement effective solutions to minimize guest impact.
Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, inventory, and relationships with outside contractors and service providers.
Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, equipment replacements, and renovations.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, work orders, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
Work closely with the General Manager and department leaders to support operational goals, guest satisfaction, and property performance.

Qualifications

One year of hotel engineering or commercial building maintenance experience.
Previous supervisory or management experience in a hospitality environment.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, boilers, and mechanical systems.
Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance management software.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment, prioritize repairs, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency on-call situations.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certifications in engineering or skilled trades preferred.
