Role Definition

The Senior Accountant is the financial control tower of the real estate operation—the seat that knows where every dollar sits, where it came from, and where it’s going. While acquisitions and dispositions drive deals from contract to close, the Senior Accountant owns the system of record that turns that activity into clean, trustworthy numbers. Like an air traffic controller tracking dozens of aircraft at once, they keep every transaction visible and accounted for, refusing to let a single deal land without its earnest money, assignment fee, and closing costs fully reconciled. They are obsessed with accuracy under volume, closing the books on dozens of deals a month without letting details slip, and they protect the company by enforcing the controls that keep cash, wires, and trust funds safe. When this role is executed well, leadership trusts the numbers completely, deals move to close without financial friction, and the company has the financial clarity it needs to scale with confidence.

Role Accountabilities

Full-Cycle Accounting & Month-End Close

Own full-cycle accounting for the business, delivering an accurate, fully reconciled set of books each period so leadership can rely on the financials without question.
Close the books on time every month at a high volume of transactions, ensuring journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations are complete, defensible, and audit-ready.
Maintain a clean deal-level ledger from contract execution through funding so every transaction is traceable and the financial picture stays accurate as deal volume scales.

Settlement Reconciliation & Deal Accuracy

Own the accuracy of every closed transaction by reconciling settlement statements and tying earnest money, assignment fees, double-close proceeds, and closing costs to the bank and to deal records, leaving no unexplained variances.
Ensure assignment contract activity—earnest money in and out, assignment fee revenue, cancellations, and forfeitures—is recorded with correct revenue recognition timing so reported margins reflect economic reality.
Resolve discrepancies across bank, escrow, and trust accounts quickly so reconciliation issues never delay a close or distort the financials.

Financial Controls & Risk Protection

Protect company and counterparty funds by owning and enforcing internal controls over earnest money handling, wire approvals, and contract assignment documentation.
Safeguard the integrity of cash movement by ensuring every wire and trust transaction is properly authorized, documented, and verifiable before and after it occurs.
Maintain coordination with title companies, escrow officers, and transaction coordinators so settlement statements, wire confirmations, and tax documentation arrive complete and on time, keeping deal velocity high.

Payables, Receivables & Compliance

Own accounts payable and receivable—including acquisition marketing spend and contractor tracking—so obligations are paid accurately, on time, and properly documented.
Ensure the company is positioned for a clean year-end and tax filing by maintaining accurate contractor records, correct inventory versus capital asset classification, and complete supporting documentation.

Financial Reporting & Business Insight

Deliver reliable reporting on deal margins, cost per acquisition, marketing return, and pipeline conversion that gives leadership a clear, trusted view of business performance.
Strengthen the accounting function as the company scales by partnering with acquisitions, dispositions, and operations to streamline workflows and remove financial friction from the deal process.
