Full Job Description

Kershaw Knives | Tualatin, OR | Full-Time | Day Shift | Non-Exempt Hourly

Join Kershaw Knives as an Automation Engineer and help improve the equipment, processes, and systems that support high-quality knife manufacturing. This hands-on role blends mechanical design, machining, automation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced production environment.

What you will do:

· Partner with management and production teams to identify and implement continuous improvement projects that reduce cost, improve quality, and increase efficiency.

· Design, build, upgrade, install, document, and maintain production machinery and process-specific equipment.

· Create mechanical and electrical designs, including CAD models, custom parts, and equipment modifications.

· Specify and procure off-the-shelf components and coordinate with internal machine shop resources or outside vendors to fabricate custom parts.

· Support machinery installation, setup, training, process documentation, troubleshooting, and ongoing equipment improvement.

· Work cross-functionally from concept through testing, including design, machining, assembly, and validation of equipment.

· Manage multiple automation and manufacturing improvement projects at the same time.

· Troubleshoot and repair large mechanical machinery and industrial control systems.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered.

· 5yrs + of related engineering, automation, manufacturing, or equipment design experience preferred.

· Experience operating a knee mill and engine lathe required; CNC experience is a plus.

· Solid modeling experience required; SolidWorks experience preferred.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills.

· Two or more years of machine design experience preferred.

· Experience in metalworking and/or consumer goods manufacturing preferred.

· Experience specifying, setting up, and maintaining PLCs, robotics, pneumatic controls, hydraulics, servo and stepper motors, VFDs, and other industrial controls.

· Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.

Environment:

This role is performed in a production environment where employees may work near moving mechanical parts and experience moderate to loud noise levels. The position requires regular standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and use of hands and fingers to handle objects or controls. The role may require lifting up to 50 pounds; any lifting over 50 pounds requires a two-person assist or appropriate equipment.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
