Center for Specialty Surgery | Portland, Oregon

Center for Specialty Surgery (CSS) is seeking an experienced X Ray Supervisor to lead radiology services supporting orthopedic surgery and interventional pain procedures.

As our X Ray Supervisor, you will work directly with orthopedic surgeons and interventional pain physicians, lead and develop the radiology team, and have a meaningful voice in how the department operates.

Specialize in procedural imaging. Work primarily with orthopedic surgery and interventional pain rather than rotating through a large imaging department.
Have real ownership. Oversee department workflow, scheduling, radiation safety, equipment readiness, staff development, competencies, and quality initiatives.
Work directly with physicians and clinical/administrative leadership. You will be an integral member of the surgical team and have the opportunity to influence how radiology services are delivered.

This is a working supervisor position for an experienced radiologic technologist who enjoys both hands-on clinical work and department leadership. The X Ray Supervisor works directly alongside surgeons, pain management physicians, nurses, and surgical staff while overseeing the day-to-day operations, safety, quality, scheduling, and development of the radiology team.

The right candidate will be confident operating C-arm equipment in a fast-paced procedural environment and equally comfortable providing direction, solving problems, coaching staff, and maintaining high standards for radiation safety and regulatory compliance.

Clinical & Procedural Responsibilities

Perform intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging during orthopedic surgical procedures and interventional pain procedures
Position patients and equipment to obtain high-quality fluoroscopic images efficiently and safely
Collaborate closely with surgeons and pain management physicians to anticipate imaging needs during procedures
Maintain appropriate radiation protection and shielding practices for patients, physicians, staff, and self
Assist with preparation of procedure rooms, sterile trays, supplies, patient positioning, verification processes, and procedural Time Outs
Transfer and maintain imaging documentation within applicable PACS, EMR, procedure documentation, and departmental systems
Troubleshoot C-arm equipment and coordinate service when necessary
Participate in room turnovers and other clinical workflow responsibilities as needed to support efficient patient care

Leadership & Department Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to CSS radiologic technologists
Manage the weekly X Ray department schedule and coordinate staffing needs based on surgical and procedural volume
Delegate responsibilities and provide guidance to members of the radiology team
Participate in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, competency assessment, and performance evaluation of radiologic technologists
Maintain and continually improve department training materials and competencies
Serve as CSS's Radiation Safety Officer and promote consistent radiation safety practices throughout the organization
Oversee dosimetry monitoring and staff and physician compliance with established radiation safety standards
Coordinate required equipment inspections, physicist evaluations, maintenance, and service
Monitor radiology quality and benchmarking requirements and support ongoing regulatory compliance
Participate in QAPI activities and provide leadership with relevant radiation safety and departmental updates
Review applicable policies and procedures and recommend improvements based on regulatory requirements and best practices
Identify departmental problems, research potential solutions, and bring recommendations forward to clinical and executive leadership

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
Current ARRT certification and applicable Oregon credentials required
Current BLS certification required
Minimum two years of radiologic technologist experience required
Experience performing fluoroscopy in an operating room or procedural environment required
Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles and fluoroscopic imaging practices
Understanding of sterile technique, infection prevention, and operating room protocols
Demonstrated ability to organize workflow, prioritize competing demands, and work independently
Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and leadership
Ability to coach others, address performance concerns appropriately, and contribute to a positive and accountable team environment

The successful X Ray Supervisor will be a visible, hands-on leader who maintains excellent clinical standards while keeping the department organized, prepared, safe, and responsive to the needs of the surgical and interventional pain teams.

This position is ideal for an experienced radiologic technologist who wants to remain clinically active while taking greater ownership of department operations, staff development, quality, and radiation safety.
