Job Summary
Our company is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our team! This position requires an individual who is committed to quality and has strong attention to detail. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine machining operations, sequence, and tooling required.
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes, mills, drill presses, and other machine tools to fabricate parts to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices appropriate to each job.
- Measure and inspect finished and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
- Identify and correct machining problems, out-of-tolerance conditions, or tooling issues; adjust machine settings as needed.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on assigned machines and report equipment malfunctions to the Production/Operations Manager.
- Maintain accurate production records, including parts counts, scrap, downtime, and time spent on each job.
- Communicate with Engineering and Production regarding drawing discrepancies, tolerancing issues, or opportunities to improve manufacturability.
- Coordinate with other shop personnel to ensure parts are machined and delivered in time to support the production schedule.
- Assist in the training of new or less experienced machine operators as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools, fixtures, and materials.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Remain current on best practices, tooling advances, and machining techniques relevant to the products manufactured.
- Seek guidance and direction as necessary for the performance of the listed duties and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate good judgment in identifying and resolving production problems.
- Foster harmonious relationships with other company employees.
- Respect the confidentiality of company, customer, and personnel information.
- Keep the Production/Operations Manager abreast of progress, problems, and potential problems, and offer appropriate solutions.
- Make the best use of time during the course of the work day.
- Provide proper notification and advance notice of absences.
- Report to work and shifts on time consistently.
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.
- Maintain a well-groomed, presentable appearance consistent with shop safety requirements.
- Maintain all work-related documentation neatly, legibly, and accurately.
- Perform any other related or unrelated, unassigned, unspecified, unusual or special duty the Production/Operations Manager may assign from time to time.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of machine shop practices, tooling, and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and bills of material (BOM) to machine parts to specified tolerances.
- Knowledge of manual and CNC machine setup, operation, and basic programming/editing of CNC control input.
- Ability to select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters for different metals and part geometries.
- Ability to perform in-process and final inspection of machined parts, including use of precision measuring tools, and to identify and correct out-of-tolerance conditions.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on machines and tooling, and to recognize when equipment requires service.
- Ability to work closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality personnel to resolve fit, form, and function issues.
- Ability to work on multiple jobs and changeovers simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and productivity.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, durable components consistent with Mighty Giant's reputation.
- Ability to recognize and follow priorities in a production environment.
- Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision, while following established safety and quality procedures.
High school diploma or equivalent with two years of experience is required. Completion of a trade program and five years of machining experience is preferred.
