Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse - Unit Manager to lead and oversee nursing operations within a specialized care unit. This vital role combines clinical expertise with strong leadership skills to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care, compliance with healthcare regulations, and effective team management. As a Unit Manager, you will coordinate daily nursing activities, mentor staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. Your expertise in critical care, medical documentation, and healthcare systems will drive quality outcomes and foster a positive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise nursing staff to ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and compliance with hospital policies and state healthcare regulations
Coordinate patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, IV infusion, catheter care, and tube feeding procedures
Oversee clinical documentation using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Cerner or Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards
Manage patient discharge planning, intake processes, and case management activities to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization
Conduct diagnostic evaluations including physical examinations, laboratory specimen collection/processing, medical imaging coordination, and infection control protocols
Ensure adherence to nursing policy compliance, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) requirements
Facilitate team management through effective communication, training on medical terminology, anatomy/physiology knowledge, and supervisory leadership to foster professional growth

Experience

Proven experience in acute care settings such as ICU (Intensive Care Unit), Level I or Level II Trauma Centers, or hospital medicine environments
Extensive background in critical & intensive care including ventilator management, airway management, spinal tap procedures, and cardiac catheterization
Demonstrated leadership experience supervising nursing teams within long-term care facilities or medical-surgical units
Strong knowledge of healthcare systems including EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with Cerner preferred
Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, behavioral health patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, pediatrics including PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) experience or neonatal ventilator management
Skilled in medical documentation such as ICD-9/10 coding, medical records management, utilization review/management processes, and discharge planning strategies
Certified in basic life support (BLS), IV insertion techniques, sterile processing procedures, phlebotomy, suturing skills; additional certifications in occupational health or workers' compensation law are advantageous
