Position Description
The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operational health of the organization. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position provides strategic oversight of key programs and services, leads and supports a dedicated staff team, and ensures that our operations run effectively, equitably, and in alignment with our mission and values.
We are looking for a skilled people manager and program leader who brings both strategic vision and a hands-on, supportive approach to their work. The ideal candidate is an experienced non-profit professional who is energized by developing staff, building strong teams, and creating the systems and culture that allow programs — and people — to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Program Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight across key program areas, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with organizational mission and strategic goals
- Monitor program outcomes and performance metrics; use data to guide continuous improvement
- Support program staff in developing and implementing evidence-informed practices
- Ensure compliance with funder requirements, grant deliverables, and relevant regulations
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on program planning, evaluation, and reporting
Staff Supervision & Development
- Directly supervise program managers and other assigned staff; provide regular, structured supervision and coaching
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture rooted in the organization’s values
- Support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development for staff
- Conduct performance evaluations; identify growth opportunities and address performance concerns with care and clarity
- Champion staff wellbeing, equity, and a workplace environment where team members feel valued and heard
Operational Leadership
- Develop, implement, and refine operational systems, policies, and procedures to support organizational efficiency
- Coordinate across departments to ensure strong internal communication and cross-functional collaboration
- Assist with budget management, resource allocation, and operational planning in partnership with the Executive Director and finance staff
- Identify and address organizational needs, risks, and opportunities proactively
- Represent the organization in community partnerships, coalitions, and stakeholder relationships as appropriate

Experience and Essential Skills
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in non-profit management, human services, or a related field, including holding a management position
- Minimum 3 years of direct staff supervision experience, including managing managers or multi-level, and multi-site teams
- Demonstrated success leading programs and driving outcomes in a non-profit or community-based setting
- Strong skills in staff development, coaching, and performance management
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to think strategically while managing the details of day-to-day operations
- Experience developing or improving organizational systems, policies, or procedures
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive service delivery
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field (equivalent lived or professional experience welcome)
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations in a human services context
- Familiarity with grant compliance and funder reporting in a non-profit environment
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, equity-centered, or strengths-based organizational practices
- Experience with organizational change, team growth, or program scaling
Physical Abilities
Able to safely lift/push/ pull up to 50 lbs., grasp, handle, manipulate items. Able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large and small groups, and individuals.

Schedule & Compensation
- Salary: $70,000-80,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- Schedule: Full-time, exempt; standard business hours with occasional flexibility required
- Location: Onsite and traveling to additional sites
