EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of high school degree required
- RN degree with 1 year of experience
- Current licensure maintained
- Training and experience in assisting on dermatologic and/or other types of surgical procedures a plus
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Clinical experience in a physician office or hospital
- Surgical experience preferred
- Experience calling in pharmacy requests
- Working knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population
- Strong computer skills required: knowledge of electronic health records and practice management software, Microsoft Office suite, e-mail and other computer and internet applications
- Minimum typing speed of 55+ wpm with accuracy
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated proactive analytical and problem-solving capability
- A “can-do” attitude, effective team-player, adaptable to various competing demands
- High level verbal and written communication skills – pleasant and professional voice and demeanor
- Neat, professional appearance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
General Patient Care
- Reviews charts in advance of scheduled appointments to ensure lab or other test results have been received; calls testing facility if results have not been received and directs results to physician for review
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Greets patients and escorts them from the reception room to exam room
- Prepares patients for exam or treatment, takes vitals, records the information in the patient's chart
- Reviews and provides patient education on preparation, procedure, post-procedure care, etc.
- Assists physicians in examinations and procedures
- Schedules and educates patients regarding off-site labs/tests
- Documents all ordered labs/tests
- Collects specimens, labels and completes lab requisitions; administers injections under physician supervision
- Formulates and updates patient care plans
- Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physician; administers prescribed medications as directed
- Disposes of sharps and contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
- Adheres to HIPAA guidelines
Telephone and Administrative
- Returns patient phone messages throughout the day; documents action taken in patient chart
- Triages incoming phone calls; instructs patient regarding treatment instruction, then documents action taken in patient chart
- Submits prescription requests to pharmacy; documents action in patient chart and obtains physician signature of approval
- Assists in managing appointments, ensuring appointments are scheduled appropriately and maintaining timely flow of patients
- Pre-certifies surgical and other procedures, if appropriate
- Contacts patients post-procedure to check on their status, as needed
- Communicates physician referral requests to staff for necessary processing
- Replenishes supplies—stocks and cleans exam rooms and treatment areas and manages supply of pharmaceutical supplies and samples
- Takes medical stock inventory and communicates supply shortages to Nurse Supervisor
Other
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations
- Maintains detailed knowledge of electronic health record and practice management systems and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Adheres to OSHA Manual and Lab Safety Manual guidelines
- Attends annual CPR, OSHA, and HIPAA training programs, as required
- Attends all regular meetings
- Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Clinic Lead, Nurse Supervisor and supervising physician/provider

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Physical Demands
Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under fast-paced, stressful conditions, and work irregular hours. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
Typical Working Conditions
Employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
