Position Summary
The Paraprofessional provides direct instructional and behavioral support to students in general and/or special education settings under the supervision of a lead teacher or Special Education Coordinator. The Paraprofessional plays a critical role in ensuring that all students, including those with individualized education programs (IEPs) have access to a rigorous, supportive, and inclusive learning environment aligned with CMI's mission.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support

Work alongside lead teachers to deliver differentiated instruction to individual students or small groups

Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in students' IEPs and 504 plans

Reinforce lessons through reteaching, guided practice, and check-ins under teacher direction

Support students during transitions, specials, lunch, and other school activities
Student Support & Relationship Building

Build positive, trusting relationships with students that promote a sense of safety and belonging

Use trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices to support the social-emotional development of students

Implement behavior intervention strategies as directed by the lead teacher or administration

Monitor student behavior and redirect as needed using approved de-escalation techniques
Documentation & Communication

Maintain accurate daily logs of student progress, behavior incidents, and IEP service delivery as required

Communicate regularly with lead teachers, special educators, and related service providers

Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development as directed

Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner
Classroom & School Community

Assist in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning environments

Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and school policy

Model CMI's core values — academic excellence, global awareness, and multilingualism — in all interactions

Perform other duties as assigned by the lead teacher, Special Education Coordinator, or administration
Qualifications Required

High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree or higher preferred

Minimum of 48 college credit hours OR passing score on a state-approved paraprofessional assessment (e.g., ParaPro Assessment), required for Title I compliance

Prior experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a team-based environment

Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure under pressure
Preferred

Experience supporting students with disabilities, behavioral challenges, or language learning needs

Bilingual/multilingual proficiency (Spanish, French, or other languages reflective of CMI's student community)

Familiarity with IEPs, 504 plans, or special education processes

Experience in a charter school or urban K–8 educational setting
-
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
