Summary: Provide dependable accounting-related clerical service to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe through expertise and practical procedures for processing and maintaining sound financial and accounting records.
Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
Possess an A.A. degree in accounting, finance, or related field; 2 to 4 years of related work experience; or a combination of both education and experience.
Familiarity with New World financial system or similar accounting software.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Introductory knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
General knowledge of Microsoft and other computer applications (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook).
Good oral/written communication and customer service skills.
Ability to respond positively to questions from employees, vendors, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures/general math skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Ability to detect errors and make corrections
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Possess the ability to write basic memorandums and letters.

Duties/Responsibilities:
This position within the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Tribal Government is critical for managing various financial operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Accounting clerical duties. This position will ensure the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes and maintain compliance with tribal, federal, and state regulations.
Research, monitor, analyze, interpret, and respond to various requests.
Reconcile bank statements.
Function as Accounting office receptionist when required, including but not limited to answering phones and retrieving mail.
Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and training as required.
Provide administrative and clerical support to various departments.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities: This position will require specialized training within one of the following departments:
Accounting Clerk Duties:
Post journal entries and assist in maintaining general, revenue, and expense ledgers.
Assist in maintaining budget files and grant files using Excel and various systems.
Reconcile bank statements and scan documents.
Assist in cash receipts, including bank deposits, when required.
Accounts Receivable (A/R) Clerk Duties:
Enter and verify daily transactions related to travel and other receivables.
Compute and process travel advances and closeouts and manage subsidiary ledgers.
Perform journal entries, reconcile accounts, and maintain employee master files.
Research and process claims, compile monthly statements, and manage travel transactions.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Accounts Payable (A/P) Clerk Duties:
Compile, sort, and verify documents like invoices and checks.
Compute leases, reconcile statements, and manage loans.
Prepare vouchers and invoices and process payments.
Reconcile utilities and maintain accurate A/P records.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Payroll Clerk Duties:
Input payroll data, manage deductions, and update payroll records.
Handle payroll discrepancies, garnishments, and process bonuses.
Prepare and issue paychecks and manage payroll for temporary staff.
Assist in preparing payroll reports and year-end tax documents.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
