PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Physician Owners / Business Administrator
OUR MISSION: To provide the most advanced, cost-effective, and patient-centered treatment for the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Physician Assistant works as part of the High Desert Sports and Spine team. The Physician Assistant has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and ensures an environment of safe quality care. The Physician Assistant demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, solid clinical decision making and critical thinking skills, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for personal and professional development and competency validation. Provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the High Desert Sports and Spine care team. Provides specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician. Such care includes evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and documentation. Coordinates ancillary, and other services to achieve the best and most cost-effective outcomes for patients under his/her care.
Work schedule: Physician Assistant will work full-time, 40 hours per week. Scheduled days may vary depending on clinic operating days and hours.
Work location: Physician Assistant’s primary work location will be the High Desert Sports and Spine outpatient clinic in Bend, Oregon.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May perform additional duties of similar complexity within High Desert Sports and Spine as required or assigned)
Behavioral Expectations:
· Participates in departmental meetings and initiatives and other performance metrics established by High Desert Sports and Spine.
· Engages and implements effective team building, trust development, creative problem solving and conflict resolution processes as it pertains to clinic function.
· Practice and role model excellence in the domains of diagnosis, aligning treatment goals to patient values, definitive treatment, supportive care treatment, follow-up care, promote good health and prevent illness.
Clinical Expectations:
· Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective and objective findings.
· Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols.
· Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
· Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
· Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
· Orders and performs appropriate medical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
· Instructs patient and family regarding prescribed medications and treatments.
· Educates patients and/or families regarding health and illness prevention.
· Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
· Collaborates with physicians and other caregivers to manage the acute and long-term health needs of patients.
· Provides monitoring and supports continuity of care between physician visits.
· Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
· Charts tests, examination results, and other appropriate clinical data.
· Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
· Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.
· Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
· Participates in and supports quality and performance improvement activities; identifies areas and functions where patients, staff, and physicians need information.
· Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.
· Participates in creating intentional relationships and puts a high level of focus on attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.
· Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients/customers in a caring way. This includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose, asking the patient their preferred name, spending time with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and using skillful communications (appropriate touch, eye contact, etc.).
· Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
· Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
· Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings.
After-Hours Call Expectations:
· The Physician Assistant will be included in the after-hours call rotation.
EDUCATION
Required:
· Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies or Master of Science in Nursing
· Complete annual fire/safety, etc. education in-services as required.
· Attend mandatory educational offerings as described in HDSS policies/procedures and/or as required by other regulatory bodies.
· Complete annual CME as required to maintain license and appropriate Board certification.
· Complete in a timely manner assigned Computer Based Learning modules.
Preferred:
· Doctorate of Science in Physician Assistant Studies or Doctorate of Nursing Practice
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required:
· Unrestricted Physician Assistant license.
· Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification.
· Ability to establish and maintain a Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician.
· Unrestricted Federal DEA number.
· Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
· Current AHA BLS certification required.
· If provider will practice sedation, moderate or deep, AHA ACLS certification is also required.
· Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
Preferred:
· Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon.
· Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
· Experience in an outpatient practice environment.
· Experience using EHR (Electronic Health Records) software.
· Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent High Desert Sports and Spine.
· Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results.
Preferred:
· 2+ years’ experience in an active sports and spine practice.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
